Your views as Royal Mail worries persist in Wrexham

READERS have been getting in touch to share their views as Royal Mail issues persist in the Wrexham area.

The Leader reported earlier this year on the story of one man who had only been receiving his post 'once or twice a week'.

That led to Frank Swinnerton, from Garden Village, having a near miss with a 'crucial' hospital appointment.

Since then, many of our Wrexham-based readers have been contacting us to tell us about their experiences with Royal Mail deliveries.

Pat Griffiths said: "We only get a couple of deliveries a week, then you get loads."

Eifion Parry told us: "There was a time that we had three deliveries per day, morning, lunch time and afternoon. I wonder how they managed it with much less tech than these days?"

Andrew Richards added: "If it arrives at all. Family members have important post that’s never been delivered."

Jayne Andrews said: "We are tending to get a lot of mail all together then nothing in Penycae. I don't blame the posties though. As with everything, they will be the ones getting kicked from all sides."

Paula Randall added: "Royal Mail staff are over worked and underpaid for the amount of work they have to do, it’s got nothing to do with the posties who deliver and everything to do with management who think their staff are super human. It can be done if they just employed more people!"

Stephen Ellis said: "Never seen any post all last week, then 9 o'clock this Monday morning he came and delivered a load."

Others were a little more sympathetic to the Royal Mail workers covering the Wrexham area.

Like Paula Jones who told us: "Those lads and girls work hard and some of the abuse they get is uncalled for."

June Smith added: "Do people realise how many miles postmen and women walk in a day? They must be exhausted."

Royal Mail has now pledged to meet new postal delivery targets by May next year as part of a £500 million investment.

That comes after it agreed to a plan to roll out changes to scrap second-class post on Saturdays.

The group said it would begin to phase in a new letter delivery model nationwide next month, subject to a consultation with union members, which will see it deliver second-class post every other weekday only.
