Midland village where residents 'not received any post this year'

Some Midland villagers have not received any post "this year", their MP said, as she demanded action to sort out deliveries.

Those affected in Water Orton included a patient awaiting a cancer screening result and others needing post relating to jobs and benefits, Rachel Taylor said.

She wrote to Royal Mail saying: ""Constituents report that delays have been ongoing since December, some have stated they are yet to receive post this year.

"I am particularly concerned about the impact on the elderly and vulnerable residents who do not have access to online platforms and rely on the post for essential communications.

"Constituents have told me they are awaiting mail relating to employment, banking and benefits, health appointments and test results, and correspondence from HMRC.

"One constituent is awaiting the result of a cancer screening test, uncertainty over the postal service is adding to what is an understandably anxious time."

Last week, Northfield residents complained to BirminghamLive about the disruption to their postal service.

Royal Mail apologised to residents affected by the 'impact' and named 'severe weather conditions and resourcing challenges' as the reason behind the delay in the city suburb.

Ms Taylor called on Royal Mail to confirm the 'immediate steps' it was taking to clear the postal backlog and that it detailed 'actions and measures' planned to prevent a similar situation.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We understand the concerns raised by residents in Water Orton and know how important timely letter deliveries are, particularly for people who rely on the post for essential communications.

"Deliveries continue in the area, and the vast majority of letters are arriving as expected.

“Christmas is our busiest period, with volumes more than doubling, and there have been some short-term pressures on certain routes.

"We will be engaging with local representatives to ensure all routes receive a regular and reliable service and continue to monitor performance closely.”
