CHAOS AS POSTIES GET LOST ON NEW ROUTES

A SHAKE-UP of Southwark's postal workers has left homes and businesses in some parts of the borough without deliveries for days on end.

The changes, which saw postmen and women working new hours and new routes, caused such confusion that some were returning to their depot with sacks full of undelivered letters.

Posties, who are not claiming overtime, are keen to get back to their base at the Mandela Way sorting office in Bermondsey before the end of their shifts. Others have reportedly become lost on the new, often unfamiliar routes assigned to them.

Addresses in the Borough area are amongst the worst affected. One resident, who lives near Bermondsey Street, told the News: "It's been going on about six weeks now. We are down to two deliveries a week sometimes.

"I had a final demand for a gas bill and ended up having to pay a late fee. It had probably sat in the post office waiting for me."

Toby Jenkins, who works at AZ Urban Studio on Weston Street, said: "It's always been poor but it's got worse recently. They told us it was a new route and the postman got lost, which is ridiculous.

They've been running the post office for 100 years and you think they would've sorted it out by now."

A worker at another business nearby complained that they no longer knew whether or not to expect deliveries on any given day.

"For about a week or two we were barely getting any post," she said. "We'd get nothing on Monday and Tuesday, then three days' worth on Wednesday. It's a bit annoying when you're trying to run a business."

A local post office worker, who did not want to be named, revealed that the new working practices have been causing confusion amongst staff and customers alike.

They told the News: "They've changed everyone's jobs around and people haven't got used to the new routes. It's not great because there are more people moaning at us."

A Royal Mail spokesperson confirmed that there has been disruption to their service in some parts of the borough, with some staff on "a steep learning curve" after their rounds had been changed. However, they are "completely confident" that customers are receiving deliveries every day.

The spokesperson said: "From time to time we do revise the delivery schedule in a particular office to ensure we are as efficient as possible and there may have been some minor disruption to delivery as a result of this, but we can assure customers that these issues have now been resolved and we are clearing the mail every day."

This is the standard explanation for all Georoute f**k ups.

I love the quote from Toby Jenkins.
They have been running the Post office for 100 years, you would think they would get it right by now.

RM might be efficient, but what about being effective in regards to customer satisfaction (e.g.are the customers getting their mail on time and are the customers receiving their mail in good condition.) These are the things RM should be thinking about, it is no use being efficient if they are not effective. It does not make sense cutting staff to be efficient when they cannot be effective, when it comes to delivering the mail.

They are not familiar with the routes as they have probably come straight off the Eurostar and don't speak a word of English.
Royal mail will not hesitate to employ them as they can pick up a sack and can walk and so long as the mail goes out the door the local DUM is happy, and can put his feet up and read the sun.
The situation in RM London is dire and has been for some years as RM will employ everything and anything as long as it has a pulse, just to avoid paying long serving guys a decent wage.
Unfortunately it is the locals who have to put up with the third world service.

A: buy a big one a wait a few years
"I once asked a girl if she was an undertaker cos i had a stiff that needed seeing too"

" I once went into a watch menders, slapped me knob on the desk and said can you put a couple of hands on that?"

Chairman’s Statement (continued)
Although the pension provision is an additional cost, improvements in customer service, fewer strikes and a real focus on making this a better place to work will put us back on track. We are still some way off reporting a profit but this year’s results are a real step in the right direction.
The enormous goodwill we have in our people, our brands and our customers means we are within sight of regaining our profitability and our position as the best postal service in the world.
