CREWE and Nantwich councillors are to meet Royal Mail bosses later this month to raise concerns about the proposed closure of the Weston Road sorting office and the loss of as many as 600 jobs to the town.
On Wednesday a cross-party group of councillors held talks with unions officials representing workers at Crewe’s Royal Mail centre.
They were joined by local MP Edward Timpson and John Dunning, the chief executive of the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce.
Council leader John Hammond said: “We had a very productive meeting with the unions and have undertaken to do all we can to keep these vital jobs here in Crewe.
“We are particularly concerned that the needs of staff are taken into account and Royal Mail service standards are maintained.”
