Letter to Editor - Lateness of Royal Mail

Sir, — I write out of sheer frustration over the situation with the delivery of our post via Royal Mail or, more accurately, the lack of it.

We bought and moved into our current home more than two years ago and expected, as is normal, for some disruption while we settled in. However, problems are continuing to this day.

We have received letters which have arrived later than expected and often with the appearance of being opened and restuck down.

Constant complaints to Royal Mail online have produced no results. When we visited the mobile Post Office mentioning this issue, the elderly gentleman running it said that he could only suggest that we use another address!

Moving on from that — we have written to both Henley sorting office and Suttons Business Park but to no avail. No response from either of them. Copies of these have also been posted to the police.

We, very much, are in a diabolical situation. Our identities can easily have been stolen, particularly as we have had to renew passports and other private data will have been in letters.

Our only saving grace has been our doorbell camera, which has provided us with photos of post-office-dressed folk putting letters through our door outside the normal postal times.

These photos are dated and timed and can prove that personal letters, which can be traced, have been put through our door at most unusual hours, suggesting that they have been read elsewhere, before arriving with us. The latest being 7pm, while we were out.

Insurance policies etc provide a large amount of our personal data and, indeed, are just providing possible fraudsters with our private business.

Ironically, when we mentioned it to a local Lib-Dem candidate, when they were canvassing for support during the general election campaign, she only said that she lived in a road close by and the post is often late.

All of which seemed rather ironic, when she would be the one written to, and that several postmen have been seen sitting on garden walls or chatting with neighbours, not a problem in itself, they are only human, but when we don’t get our post, it is.

All of this is highlighted, when you are like myself, and are writing to the Department for Work and Pensions looking for answers re my pension status, and advising them of my name change and there is no response at all.

This indicates that our post does not come to us but also, as has been suggested, that others are claiming monies in our name. I even received a photocopied P60, later than I should have got the original form.

Overall, we can’t trust Royal Mail and am not sure even if our letters or emails actually arrive anywhere. We have had to personally deliver everything. But we are never certain of receiving a response.

A Royal Mail spokesman responds: “We are committed to delivering all items of mail on time.

In some instances, local issues such as vacancies or sick absence can impact deliveries. In those cases, we work to ensure any resulting delays are kept to a minimum and to resume regular service as soon as possible.”

I saw a similar post on Facebook about 3 years ago, the guy was a complete loon claiming everyone was fake - the postman, the milkman, the workmen working on the road. He was posting pictures of the RM van saying someone had simply done up a standard van in RM livery (all this post purely to post domino’s leaflets).

In the original posts instance, I’m guessing they are on a lapsed round or somewhere in Scotland where they aren’t leaving the office while midday. As for opened mail, I bet the occasional letter gets torn by the machines or gets wet in the rain, and in their tin foil hat world they now say every letter is opened.

Obviously if someone is claiming money in their name they’ve gone to the police, to their bank, to action fraud?

I bet the occasional letter gets torn by the machines

Could be where the letter hasn't been sealed properly, some people don't even attempt to seal an envelope. The suction of the machine feed is powerful enough to sometimes suck the contents out
