New sorting machine installed at Leeds Mail Centre

A second high-speed parcel sortation machine has been installed at Leeds Mail Centre.

The move is part of Royal Mail's initiative to boost efficiency and meet growing demand for next-day deliveries.

The new machine, an "intelligent system" of conveyor belts and scanning technology, sorts parcels faster than manual methods.

When combined with the first machine, which was installed back in 2019, the centre will be able to process more than 18,000 parcels per hour.

Marta Urbanczyk-Pawelec, parcel sortation machine manager at Leeds Mail Centre, said: "We are really happy to have our second PSM at Leeds so we can sort even more of our mail automatically and speed up the process.

"Some of our people have worked here for decades and they’re excited for the opportunity to learn a new skill and deliver more quickly for customers."

Leeds Mail Centre is one of the UK’s biggest, covering Leeds, York, Bradford, Huddersfield, and Halifax.
