Tributes have been paid to a popular Penryn postman who died this week.

Nicky Radcliff, who was in his late 40s, is said to have died of a suspected heart attack on Monday, May 5.

Retired Penryn councillor John Ashwin said: "I knew the family and his father Neville Radcliff through the Christmas Lights Committee, it is such tragic news and very sad for his mother Barbara who lost her husband only recently.

"I was saddened to hear he had died. He was only a young man."

Mary May, Penryn town mayor, described Mr Radcliff as "a really nice guy."

She said: "He was always very pleasant and very courteous - just a nice guy. He'll be sadly missed."

Mrs May added that every year he used to attend an annual competition between Penryn Chamber of Commerce and the Christmas Lights Committee, as the winners' trophy was donated by his mother in memory of his late father, who was a long-standing Chamber of Commerce member.

The two bodies still compete each year in an activity such as darts or bowling, with the winners receiving the trophy for that year and getting the change to choose the following year's competition.

"Nick always used to come along and participate. He gave great support," added Mrs May.

She said that Mr Radcliff was well known in Penryn and was a member of the town's gentlemen's club in Broad Street.
