A HEROIC postman who saved the life of a 68-year-old man has been traced.

John Richardson contacted the Warrington Guardian after reading about Stanley Cowap's ordeal in last week's paper.

The pensioner had wandered out of Warrington Hospital and had collapsed, lying in the street, on Sankey Way, when John noticed him.

"I pulled over and raced back to him. I thought he'd been knocked over and they had just left him," said John, who is the postman for the Jackson Avenue area.

"He was lying face down, so I got him in the recovery position and started talking to him.

"I saw he had his hospital wrist band on so I knew his name. I just kept telling him it was all right, but he was very confused and didn't really understand me," said John, aged 38, from St Katherine's Way, in Howley.

As he was with Mr Cowap another postman, Steve Parry, turned up and rang for an ambulance.

Mr Cowap spent time in the intensive care ward at Fazackerley Hospital after getting hypothermia. He is now at home and Warrington Hospital is conducting a review on how he came to be wandering the streets.

In a twist, Mr Cowap's son Paul is John's boss at the Royal Mail. "He came in and thanked me for saving his dad," said John.
