Much loved Derry postman, Charlie Kelly, was laid to rest yesterday (Tuesday 10) in St Mary's Cemetery after Requiem Mass in St Columb’s Church.
Post office vans led and followed Charlie's hearse down Chapel Road in an emotional send off as colleagues old and new lined the route to the Chapel dressed in their uniform.
Charlie sadly lost his battle with illness at Altnagelvin Hospital last Friday, surrounded by his loving family.
The celebrant of his Requiem Mass in St. Columb's Church, Father Michael Canny, held the service in memory of a much loved member of the community.
Father Canny said that the proud Waterside native would have celebrated his 65th birthday on the 20th of this month.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife, Grace, his son Gerard and his partner Emma and his grand-daughter, Isla-Bo.
He was a dear brother of Gerard, Margaret, Pat, Kevin, Sean, Paul, Carmel, Moira, Jim and the late Mark and Paula and a much loved brother-in-law admired and adored by his nieces, nephews and friends.
