A Caring city postie who delivered more than mail to a stranded OAP during last year's floods stands to win a top award.Kind-hearted Terry Norman of Norbury Avenue, Matson, kept house-bound pensioner Evelyn Reynolds, 74, from Denmark Road, supplied with water during the crisis last July.

As soon as the 35-year-old Royal Mail delivery driver noticed that the elderly lady had problems he fetched water from bowsers and bottles of drinking water.

"The poor lady lived on the second floor of a block of flats and the lift was broken," said Terry. "And she could only get about with a walking stick.

"She had no water and it was second nature to help someone like that."

Terry, from Gloucester South Delivery Office, has been nominated as the regional finalist in Royal Mail's 1st Class People Awards.

He was chosen as the South West winner in the community category which recognises posties who make an extra contribution in the communities where they work and live.

He will now join other regional winners from across the country at a London award ceremony on March 31, where he will receive a cheque for £500 and a certificate from Royal Mail Chief Executive Adam Crozier.

Terry now goes forward to the national finals where he stands a chance of winning £1,000.

Delighted Evelyn said: "He was a really nice bloke. He was very helpful as he fetched water for me.

"It was quite a scary time for me as I had no real way of getting water. He did more than most people would.

"I think he is an amazing person who would do anything for anyone."

She added: "I am really pleased he won the regional competition and will now go through to the national final.

"He really deserves to win."
