Looks to me like it's another article confirming that Royal Mail now see letters and the USO as a persistent turd on their shoe that they can't shake off quickly enough.

Oh yeah and that probably includes us too.

Something would have to give, I'd imagine the government having to step in as you say though as it would be impossible for a business to maintain a 6 day or maybe even 5 or less USO with only mail to deliver, it just wouldn't pay so yes I'd suspect it would have to be heavily subsidised in some way shape or form.

You see talk in the news about axing a load of EU laws, was DSA the result of an EU law? If it is then we could get some end-to-end business mail back, some we'll never get back where it switches to being sent electronically

If letters got dumped on the government, what's stopping the government from also offering a parcel service..... then Royal Mail have given themselves another competitor. Also, would we be called Royal Mail anymore as we wouldn't be delivering mail. Sell the brand back to the government? The brand name is pretty important and it nationally recognised, historic and trusted.

So maybe the best thing to do if they really want to get rid of letters is to charge ridiculously high prices to send mail.
