TNT says reached agreement in principle with unions on reorganisation plans.
AMSTERDAM (Thomson Financial) - Postal giant TNT NV has reached an agreement in principle with several Dutch unions on a new collective labour agreement regarding its plans to reorganise its postal operations to deal with the consequences of market liberalisation, the company said in a press release.
The agreement applies to some 60,000 employees in the Netherlands and will run until January 2011; it includes measures to minimise redundancies at TNT, including steps to assist workers in finding new jobs.
TNT has been planning a reorganisation for some time in order to cut costs and prepare the company for the planned liberalisation of the postal market for letters under 50 grams on January 1, 2008.
The company has, in the past, spoken about cutting as many as 7,000 jobs, prompting unions to request an external review of the reorganisation plan.
When that review was complete and the Boston Consulting Group concluded that TNT's cost-cutting measures were necessary, the unions said they would negotiate with TNT on programmes meant to aid employees in changing jobs.
TNT said the unions will now take the agreement to their membership and expects them to advise their members to endorse it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
