ROYAL MAIL IS introducing a new delivery model in Pershore amidst widespread complaints over its postal service.
West Worcestershire MP Dame Harriett Baldwin was briefed in July on plans to reduce the frequency of second-class deliveries, Pershore was chosen as one of 240 delivery offices involved in the initial rollout of the new system.
Royal Mail says the change is needed to cope with the higher cost of delivering letters. The company blames cost pressures on a trend of fewer letters being sent and growth in the number of households it serves.
The MP has asked residents to contact her if they notice a change after she received numerous reports of irregular, bulk deliveries.
Dame Harriett said: “Scores of local people have complained to me about a failing mail service that meant they missed important hospital appointment reminders and letters from the bank.
“I have repeatedly urged Ministers to get to grips with this problem and Royal Mail has already been fined by Ofcom for missing its delivery targets.
“The cost of stamps continues to go up but now Royal Mail is reducing its second-class deliveries, ostensibly to provide a more consistent service.
“Pershore is one of the first delivery offices to trial the new system and I will be monitoring the results closely. Anyone in and around Pershore who sees a change should let me know their feedback.”
