As for doing the job myself, i just do not have the people skills to take the job on, i would chin somebody after the first confrontation. That is why nobody takes the position on, too many idiots to work beside. Being a rep must be the hardest and most thankless task around.
Then of course there is the other side of the coin when reps are less than entusiastic about leading those who would take action - how about meetings, campaign material, literature on local action, one to ones - it isn't all one sided - perhaps some see a bigger picture.
Get the AREA REP in ASAP for an office meeting.

doing the job properly...

Post by ray of sunshine »

Didnt touch no mail until the ips at 5am.
There was 4 out 5 sorting on our section.
Untouchable was in at 4.15, sorted all the met and threw his walk out
untouchable decides to go off the sorting and throw his walk out.
I didnt touch the mail on my frame until 7am
We had a team brief at 7.20am about our hours changing next week to 6am.
Keeps throwing my walk out.
Untouchable goes past with a coffin full of bags at 7.30am!!!!!!
i see my line manager at 8.30am after doing the redirections and kill offs, i want to do to time.
I prep one bag up for someone to do.
Get the other 2 drop bags ready for the driver,
see all the missorts at the ips frame, no one besides me was bothered about it.Untouchable might think he is untouchable for coming in on strike days but the untouchable is wearing a bit thin and didnt hit my walk until 9.40am

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Maintaining Acceptable Working Standards

Post by I-POSTIE »

Please read the following notice given to me this morning by my manager posing with a clip board whilst placing a tick against my name in order to give the Royal Mail rant some phony gravitas.

“Maintaining Acceptable Working Standards

Its a contractual requirement that everyone is required to work to reasonable acceptable standards. We are all expected to reasonably perform our contracts. Deliberately bad performance is not acceptable and breach of contract.

We have good and robust benchmarks that demonstrate when people are breaking their contracts.

By capturing volumes of mail from previous weeks/days, completion times and the number of cut offs we can then compare this with what is happening now, we can also compare against the performance of other delivery units.

From this comparison you can clearly see that people are now not working normally and therefore are not fully meeting the requirement of their contracts.

An example of this would be that before this period of cut offs started, the average Pre-time was between 1- 1.5 hours – now the Pre-time being taken is 3.5 to 4 hours on similar volumes.

Therefore it is clear to see that collective action is being taken. This is clearly unacceptable and might also be unlawful industrial action.

This action and behaviour must now cease and people are requested to return to normal working and to ensure the correct handling and delivery of mail.

Individuals that fail to work normally and do not meet the required standards will not be meeting their contractual obligations and therefore will be unpaid for the day on which the action is taken.

I don’t want this to happen, our customers don’t want us to delay their mail and I’m sure you don’t want to lose more money. So Lets get back to normal working as quickly as we can

Please do not confuse the request from your union with regard
To doing your job properly with the action that you are
Currently taking – working slowly.

Glenrothes DO is the office in question.

I know of at least 10 (THERE WILL PROBABLY BE MORE) who will be crossing the line on Friday, most of them union members. I know it is a free country but it is sickening to see them get a escort from management, GUTLESS..........
I have it on good authority darren that the area rep will be at your office at 07:00 tomorrow

Love it Ipy,watch the buggers squirm. Is that the best they can do?

On a personal note, our DO ,after months of WTL telling us traffic was way down had a session with area delivery manager who restated this, Problem being our traffic figures consistently show 5% increase year on year to present.

Guess what , two weeks later we are no longer required to measure the inward volume and traffic figures are no llonger posted.

I dont think your screw could of put that THREAT up on your notice board at a worse time when he spoke to u mate... Nice points you made about the total show of pressure the WORK TO YOUR 318 HAS HAD.... It is self explanitry that doing the job as RM want just dont work.... GOOD WILL from us the workers has got to stop full stop....... And if RM think its bad now lets hope its a knock on effect when we all realise the the THREAT is a weak one and holds little water.. But it wont stop RM laying it on thick... They still will try and twist facts and spin the life out of any legistation they can..

UNTIL WE HEAR ANYMORE FROM THE CHUCKLE BROTHERS...?

LETS KEEP STRONG.. DONT LISTEN TO THE PROPAGANDA OF RM AND UNITY IS STRENGHT!!

NEVER LET THE BASTARDS GRIND US DOWN!!!!!

OUT ON THE COBBLES

doing the job properly pt 2

Post by ray of sunshine »

Tonnes of mail today.
Just kept taking it and putting it on my frame.
finally came off the ips at 7am.
untouchable still came in early and threw his walk out, but then like us didnt throw his walk out.
It came to the point that untouchable put his ear phones and listened to music off his phone as he got sick of people talking about strike action.

Looks at the duties for next wk.He is on mine next wk :mad
He will be in early, no drop bags, throwing out while the rest are doing the ips :mad

anyway it was coming up to 9.30am, got 2 drop bags done and put out for the driver, left 2 bags full of work( all for the shops and businesses)Took 1 bag out, started at 10.30am and finished 1pm!

reguarding the later starts our dom's boss says due to having no childminder on a saturday i cant work until 1pm.
So in 2 wks time he is coming around with me on the saturday to see what time i finish on a saturday. He says i will finish well before 1pm.mmmm i said i have no light saturdays, i am always the last one in the office on my section.
has anyone got any ideas on HOW TO DO THE JOB ANY MORE PROPERLY? :Applause

5.45 start box off mail to RM2000, then go on IPS
after IPS box all mail off, then empty packet bag, give large items to driver.
return to RM2000 and throw all mail in, depending on time before missort run prep up 20% of D2D.
sort up missorts and throw in any missorts.
start to prep drop-bags for driver. ( don't forget you re-directions)
dead letters
i think it's time for a break.
prep up my first bag and get ready to leave the office.
travel to walk and start delivering, taking care to leave gates as i found them, stopping to get mail for next delivery point ready, not reading while walking ( H & S must be followed at all times, it is our best friend)
complete delivery without taking any short-cuts.
finally pouch-off any undeliverable items or go to tso with any SD items.

i think you'll find all duties can be made to last the alloted time, if i missed anything i apoligise in advance.

make sure you fill out P739 items with full name address postcode etc, up and down all pathways "no leaping hedges" dont walk to fast you get the idea. If you havn't got drop boxes or offically recognised safe drop points make sure the driver meets you with 2nd 3rd 4th bags etc, perhaps he might even be late getting a bag or 2 too you!! Dont forget if you need a toilet break you are entitled to go back to the office if you do not have a loo on your or adjacent to your delivery. Practise makes perfect good luck.

Why is it that Warrington DO FT start at 6:30am and the Pt at 8am when it seems the rest of the country aren't? 4 out of 5 days sorting is still being done at 9am

Also here is a problem

Some deliveries have good dervice from vans and have bags dropped off on time no problem, the postmen have been on these duties for years. They also have bikes everything is fine and doing your job properly has had little or no effect. They come in at 6:30am throw off for half an hour go on sorting then come off at 9am throw the rest in and then out for 9:30/9:45.

People start at our office part time as a rule it seems. You can't expect these lads that are new and don't have a duty to come in at 8am not know the frame not know who the driver is and also not know where the bag drops are or how to tie it up.

To me this work to rule thing is fine if everyone had bikes or everyone went out in the van but as it stands not everyone does so it makes it unfair and bickering starts. I am in full support of work to rule but playing field is not level within some offices making some staff feel like martyrs.

Any advice?

how about the CWU do their job properly and inform it's members what is happening instead of communication blackouts leaving us in Limbo .... they work for us and not the otherway about
