I accept that we need to wait and see what the announcement on Sun/Mon brings, but I do have concerns that whatever the deal, good or bad it will be accepted when put to the vote.

The views expressed on this site are from a small minority of those in the union eligible to vote and there are a lot of people that supported the strike because they realised what a mistake it was not to have the mandate for IA when the Way Forward and SDD was negotiated, allowing
RM to treat us like s*it.

We have all gone without an increase in wages since last April and in the meantime everyday living expenses increase. Council tax in our area increased by 8% in April, fuel prices have increased, the weekly shopping bill has increased, interest rates on mortgages have increased and in October the extra tax on fuel that Mr Brown announced in his budget in March, I think it was, kicks in.

Now, to me that is a comprehensive list of why we should all hold out, but for many I fear they will take the view that they can not afford to continue without any increase at all, as is the case at the moment. Better to take something rather than nothing attitude.

I pray that this is not the outcome but judging by talking to many colleagues the lack of information during talks has slackened the resolve of the less militant among us.

What I cannot understand is why they need the extra days - after 4 weeks!
I hope for the CWU's sake that we do not get shafted - or they will be losing a lot of members, and Royal Mail will be losing a lot of experienced staff (not as if I want to stay with the business that much longer, anyway.)

Now you can all tell me to go and get rooted, seeing as I joined RM just as last year's dispute was coming to a close, so I don't proclaim any sort of knowledge - but I will proclaim my opinions.

1. We are still in a position to continue any IA, if RM continue to treat us with contempt.

2. Nothing will be agreed unless we accept that agreement & by that a majority of people that vote, will accept the agreement.

3.As far as I am aware, this is the first RM dispute ( maybe first UK dispute ) that the internet has played a major role in informing all participants - previously ( I assume ) only RM had access to all information & could disseminate and distribute that information across the managerial network as they saw fit.....this time, I as a lowly unknowing AG, had access form all points of the UK, when before, I would have been left wondering what the feeling was in my home office ( I work in Sevenoaks, but live in Rochester, 26 miles away ), let alone Yorks, Lancs, Scotland, Wales, NI, etc

Last time there might have been a shite deal ( from what I've seen here ) & the time before, & the time before & etc....well things are different this time, partly due to the internet, but also because Billy & Dave know that this time is make or break time for the union ( and woe betide them if they don't know it ). Let's all wait for a proposed agreement, then get the result of the ballot on that proposal & then let's see where we are.

In the meantime, I think it would be fair to get a couple of stakes sharpened, so a couple of decapitated heads can be displayed ( L&C or B&H, depending on the result )

The big problem here is the whole idea of the "deal". We cannot trust RM to keep to their side of whatever bargain might be struck.

This morning in our office we had a complete b*****d of a manager in to interview people about later starts. His first action was to threaten one member of the staff with conduct code if he didn't attend. He later stood up in front of the office and denied making this threat (a lot of us actually heard the threat). He then said that these interviews are voluntary, but that this is the only chance staff would get to talk to management if they have a problem with the later starts which, he said, are being brought in regardless.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but later starts is one of the "strings" which is up for negotiation, and would form part of any deal. We are supposed to be in the middle of a period of calm and awaiting the outcome to negotiations. RM are acting as though the deal (whatever it might be) is totally irrelevant to their plans. So what exactly is the rest of that deal worth?

In Oxforshire delivery officeses, management have all the paper work for late start completed ... It just got to be displayed on the walls and notice borads. This morning DOM were saying that late start deal is more or less done and dusted . Delivery will start 6 am and night shift will start at mid night . ( no consideration for home or family life of staff ).

Or customers. Since moving from 05.00 to 06.30, I bring back well over 50% of packets and it's almost impossible to get an answer at the door when calling with RD's or RMSD's except for the first couple of roads.

It probably IS A DONE DEAL

I fully expect the CWU to have CAVED IN on this verry important issue - else why would RM put in all the effort , going beyond contingency plans and moving into impementation mode

at our place a lot of people are asking me about what is going on because i have heard more on this internet site than they have learned from any where else,i often get told stories from this site a couple of weeks after i first mentioned them so it shows that the few of us on here can influence indirectly the oponion of a larger group,however the general feeling is that this is the unions last chance if we get shafted on this deal,many many people will jack the union and save themselves the money each week,this has included active socialist members as well as those who joind because it was the done thing, i assume some of those people are just talking but a good sized bunch seem very serious

Why there is no oppostion from CWU on this late start subject? No one want this dmn late start and its not working but management is going through it and management is pushing it all the way . Why going on delivery .. only reason was to early start and early finish.

You get a day like today in our office, tons of crap, sorting until 08.15 and you're doing well to start your delivery by 10.00. By the time you're half way around, you're boiling hot, your feet ache and you're sweating like a boxer. I blame the DOM we had last October who wanted brownie points for his promotion, which he subsequently got, a rep who didn't like the idea of postmen finishing earlier than drivers (i.e. him) because they were 05.30 starts and the postmen were 05.00 and a handful of drunks who couldn't get out of bed after a good nights drinking, and a load of other people who didn't have the wit to realise they were voting for a £12 pay cut. Of course plenty of them are sorry now, but once the rep told them later starts were coming in nationally, and they believed him despite his track record, it was a done deal.

Look,its our union ,lets support it .Dave and co are doing there best,we know nothing till Sunday ...less of the threats and winging ..the Union is in a powerful position ..Leighton was forced to the table ,believe me if he could have crushed the Union he would ,its Leightons city reputation on the line here ,so we should 'nt care about him ,just as he didnt give a damn about you .remember we have a vote ,he knows it and vote we will if the deal is crap..Autumn pressure is here ,traffic is up ..the deliberate attempt by RM to force a summer strike backfired,when traffic was at its slowest ,they have no room for maneover, now ..christmas only 2 months away for international post they wont risk the ongoing strike ...so cheer up lads , im more interested in what the city will think of leighton after this ...after all hes only used to bullying Asda checkout assistants,and making millions on a 2 day week
