It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Stubaby.
Totally agree, I have never believed that RM have ever been serious
about summer lapsing, and covering sick leave.
it's an old negotiating trick. Offer some outrageous deal that no one
would ever accept, and then offer what you initially intended as a
compromise.
Hope Dave&Billy are wise to this and negotiate hard.

Re: OBVIOUS DELAYING TACTIC
Couldn't agree more,my dad was a union rep in one of the biggest movements of the 70s/80s,many a time if their wasn'tstubaby wrote:

It will take us what 2 strikes to get them back in the s**t again and guess what we will be approaching xmas and they will really want a deal before then
Its obvious to me and has been for a couple of weeks that they are wobbling and panicking all over the place.
One fact everyone needs to understand this UNION will not agree to summer lapsing or covering sick leave that is a FACT.
I also think they maybe a red herring to get the real changes they want later starts monthly pay and cuts in nights and OT.
This is only my opinion.
a rule he would simply make one up to bide some time
and this is the classic smoke screen, araft of changes to cause confusion, when really they will be very happy with say 4 or 5
crucial concessions.

So what will the union compromise on?
Later starts?-Yes
Monthly pay?-maybe
Extra d2d? -agree to five per week, with current payments.
Team working? -No
Unpaid work covering sick leave and summer lapsing etc? -they better not.
What else will they compromise on? Make no mistake that's what's gonna happen to us

Re: OBVIOUS DELAYING TACTIC
Spot on, stubaby. If this is only a stalling tactic by RM, then it's a really dumb move on their part.stubaby wrote:Sorry but thats bolloxstevie247 wrote:The strikes have been called off for a month of "meaningful talks" then balloted again on a watered down version of RM plans the results will take another month that takes in september and october two of the heaviest months of the year. This is a obvious delaying tactic by :lfo :cfo .If this union agree to covering sick leave and summer lapsing i will not just be leaving the union i will be leaving the job.

Worst case scenario, the union realise they're being played for fools, and have to re-ballot the membership (because the original ballot is invalidated by a period of no IA ? (I'm not sure what the legalities of this are, so feel free to correct me on that). By the time that's done, the result is declared - with MORE than a 77% yes vote - and the legal notice period of at least 7 days has been satisfied, we'll be striking at a time when mail volumes are a lot higher than when we had the one-dayers.
A fresh wave of rolling strikes - which have proved to be very effective already in creating a backlog - would give RM twice as much difficulty as now, and we'd be well into October by the time another 2 weeks of rolling strikes had taken place.
I think we do have to trust our negotiators at this point. If that trust later turns out to have been misplaced, then and only then would be the time to consider posting CWU membership cards back to Dave Ward. I cannot believe Dave and Billy would agree to suspending the strikes unless there were clear indications of movement from RM's previous stance. And don't forget, ACAS have been there to witness the talks, so if RM go back on anything they have said thus far in those talks, there are independant witnesses to confirm they have lied !!!
RM must know that if they again force the CWU into a position where further strikes are called, the chaos that ensues will be far worse than the current backlog. That should make them negotiate properly this time, as they know now what the likely consequences will be - a big backlog and strike action in the run-up to Christmas ??? If a backlog now has forced them into negotiations, they can't be hell-bent on pushing us out on strike again when volumes will be much much higher, surely ?

"We'll only accept monthly pay if you agree to an 18-month pay deal, so that the next pay talks will start in October 2008, and in October every year thereafter, like it used to be"
Why do I want this?
Because when we get a cr@p offer (as we do almost every time), the timetable for balloting the membership, getting a Yes vote, and giving the required 7 days notice of impending strikes carries a damn sight more power when the business is approaching it's busiest period, than when we get a Yes vote in the summer

:lfo :cfo Surely the reputations and careers of Little and Large to the Business community would be stained forever if they were cause an all out strike after everything thats gone on. Which is what should happen if this latest development is a red herring. I feel confident that I could deliver my office on an all out if a good deal is not produced. The reputations of our top union officials are also on the line. The bottom line is that RM lost the battle for the Public and the press turned against them because of it. If you don't print what you reader wants to see they buy another paper and and sales figures are the bottom line for an editor.---------------KAWAK

I hope to god i'm wrong,but i wouldn't trust anything these two
b.....ds have to say.
On a more possitive note, it is still in our hands.
if the cwu come back to us with a pile of shite, vote it out.
Then back to the picket line.
I know some of us feel let down at the mo, but we have shown
not only the gruesome twosome, but also the CWU that we won't
lay down and be shafted.
Stay strong, we've f****d em once, we can do it again.

Re: A matter of trust......
I posted this almost 2 months ago - I hope this time the pressure is kept on until we have a decent settlement which is in writing and in the public domain - no more conciliatory gestures - no more being trusting and naive - this is a battle for our future as well as that of Royal Mail - we are not the casualties of this business - we are the custodians of it.rhino49 wrote:Any cancellation or deferral of IA at this stage will give RM the opportunity to catch up with their backlog. This would be reasonable IF we could trust RM's negotiating team to put an acceptable offer on the table by way of an increase in the pay offer and/or the withdrawal of conditions or practices that we disagree with.
Given their track record so far in being economical with the truth about pensions, potential bonus earnings and network changes allied to their flat refusal to previously consider our claims for improved terms I think the word trust is redundant in these negotiations.
If you have something nasty cornered and subdued - you don't step back a bit and give it room to spring at you.
A delaying tactic that left us starting again from scratch would be disastrous for us and frustrating in the extreme for our customers.
Keep the pressure on until we have an offer in writing - RM must be made to understand that the sooner they resolve the situation, the sooner they will regain control of their business to the benefit of all concerned[/b][/u]
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile
