There is no deal until we the members vote, why we need to wait for financial institutions to open to know something we could potentially back heel is beyond me

Well that gives you the priority set on this agreement "on the cusp" and it's not the members.

Because the markets are basically a giant casino and the house doesn't like it when the players know the cards before the dealer.gary1975 wrote:There is no deal until we the members vote, why we need to wait for financial institutions to open to know something we could potentially back heel is beyond me
As for kicking the deal into touch the members will follow the PEC recommendation and they'll meet on Tuesday/Wednesday next week. Of course the PEC will need to know they have the support of the LDC because they are the only people who could organise any genuine opposition to any deal.

Err, who says opposition has to be organised? Its never a wise move to second guess the collective will of the membership. This agreement will doubtless be the fruit of many compromises. True, history suggests a deal approved by the PEC will in all probability get approved by the membership (and the market makers will doubtless assume this), but to suggest the membership vote is a tick box exercise of no significance is not a very clever idea. Such an approach suggests that the vote of the individual is of no significance, and whilst the PEC may view the deal as the best they could achieve, it is up to both the union and RM to sell it to the individual members. The union is the membership and vice versa. The union is not the PEC. If RM and the union fail to sell the deal, the vote could go against them. Although I don't know what the situation is in the mail centres, many people in delivery are really pi***d at the situation they find themselves in, and are rightly skeptical as they have had their fingers burnt several times already. This negotiation has been billed to the membership as "the future of RM" and so needs to meet that expectation. My vote is definitely not guaranteed based upon the PEC recommendation - it will be cast based upon the merits (or not) of the deal's content as I see it.fishtank wrote: As for kicking the deal into touch the members will follow the PEC recommendation and they'll meet on Tuesday/Wednesday next week. As it should be and if you knew my history on this site you would know that I'm nobody's lap dog but the fact is any rejection of this deal would need to be organised and that takes branch support and not just any branch support but the big players, this is not my first "deal", I've been involved in the union for 20+ years and I know the politics inside out.My vote is definitely not guaranteed based upon the PEC recommendation - it will be cast based upon the merits (or not) of the deal's content as I see it.
I know the basics of the deal.
It's not the deal of the century but bearing in mind where we are, where we were 6 months ago and where the country is it's a decent deal.
There are things the members won't like but there are things that won't be happening that members would have liked even less. Big picture time..

The CWU & RM are going to experience a totally different outcome this time around with any luck. In all the previous pay deal/strike votes that I can remember there has been a fairly low turnout with roughly a 50/50 vote. This time we have had a very high turnout and a definite majority vote. We have been sold down the river by the union too many times now and it's time to make a stand. At one time we may have been saving more time than was economically viable for the business. Those days are long gone now and the business is effectively run on slave labour. This has to be tackled before RM and probably the CWU are dragged by the scruff of their necks before the relevant government select committees. It will not be good for RMs reputation to be linked with bad employment practices used by ASOS & Sports Direct etc.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Things that they won’t like? Backpay not being paid one of them?

No Fishtank was alluding to that fact that as with all negotiated settlements no one gets everything they want. We will be happy about some aspects of the deal and we will be disappointed by others. It will be up to each individual member to decide if the deal as recommended has reached their expectations or not. Or if they are a sheeple just don't bother reading it and follow your Branches advice.monkey76 wrote:

We can’t please everyone, never have never will. I asked simply because the biggest moan in Mail Centres is back money not being paid, up to now anyway. Later finishes will **** everyone off no end if they come in like.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:No Fishtank was alluding to that fact that as with all negotiated settlements no one gets everything they want. Are we definitely hearing something today? My Branch sec and one of our Div reps told us at quarterly that it would be the 30th?

The detail won't be know until after the PEC two day meeting which ends on 31st January , it will probably be more interesting than the transfer window especially if your a West Ham supportermonkey76 wrote:Are we definitely hearing something today?
