Now,correct me if i'm wrong, but the initial I/A was to do with the 2.5% offer. So, bearing in mind strikes have been suspended, are we to get at least the 2.5% now, or as so many are now saying, back to square one and come Sept 4, alll out again.

I'd love to have been a fly on the wall today, as Leighton has obviously double-spoofed/bluffed Ward/Hayes.
Something does not add up here.

The rolling strikes were ingenious and I would hope that after such a campaign we dont fall back to the old ways of doing things. I hope the PEC are clear of what needs to be done to ensure members confidence in them. I think we may be panicking a bit, and lets just see what happens. As my good ol managers would say.."lets put it all in the blender and see what mix comes out"...lol
RM HAVE SHAT THEMSELVES!!!

This is true. The current PEC have seen what happened in the old days and I know for fact they will not give us a Johnson/Keggie scenario. We have had the business by the nads for the last 3 weeks. I can imagine L & C going cap in hand to the CWU. I really can.

lets hope we get a winner out of this, and as quoted in here somewhere, strikes are only suspended for the time being. If the PEC don't like it, we go back to doing the business of striking again. And this is where we need to get into those people who were close to coming in. We talk to those who NEARLY come in and say to them "look, your actions (coz you striked) have forced RM around the table. If you come in like other strike breakers, this only hinders the talks as that gives RM fuel to say you're not ars*d"

Thats what I would say to the strikes doubting thomas's.

And to the strike breakers, I would tell them to p*ss off coz THEY have hindered talks and that is why it has taken too long to get the two sides to talk.

I can't believe this  Royal Mule has no intention of backing down about any of their strings. All this achieves is giving them time to clear the backlog before repeating themselves again saying "modernisation, competition"
They have stated at every opportunity that
There is no more money
Why should we believe they've changed their mind. No industrial action should have been called off until we had some concrete proof that the strings had been removed.
This is bollox of the highest order!

We are pleased to confirm that the current industrial action has been suspended. At a meeting today, between Royal Mail and the Communications Workers Union it was agreed:

that both parties commit to talks on all the issues between them, hosted and facilitated by the TUC and supported by ACAS. Both sides commit to reach an agreement by 4 September.
that during this period the talks are on a confidential basis with no media or internal briefings unless explicitly jointly agreed. The CWU Executive and Royal Mail Board will receive regular updates on progress and will also be expected to undertake this confidentiality clause.
that for that period, Royal Mail will not serve notice or take any unilateral action to impose changes by executive action.
that for the same period, the CWU will suspend industrial action.
We aim to get back to normal as quickly as possible and would like to apologies to all of our customers for any disruption the recent strike action has caused.

I don't think CWU will sell us out.

But CWU (i.e. US) had the advantage. The results from the last four weeks should have been used as THE negotiating position, not given away in a 'fob off' of jam tomorrow. It is easier to get what you want when yopu are holding their balls..... Now they have time to put on a Kevlar Jock Strap.....

RM now know how hard we can hit them, and they will be making contingency plans for the next (inevitable) bout of IA. This fact with the inevitable drifting away of CWU members and people needing money in the run up to Xmas means we have lost the initiative.

I'm off to boot something hard.

Look, I agree, if we continue to work to 318's and do the job properly, then we can still show business to RM. Thats all it takes. Just coz everything has been suspended, doesn't mean fleeing around in vans, sorting like the tazmanian devil, pushing more than one container at a time, not weighing your bags, etc.

Do our job properly AND SHOW RM we can still stuff it up them and highlight the problem that we need more staff!!!

Sorry for edit, realised loads of mistakes in first draft!!!

I am a Union Rep and have been for 10 years, and if the next deal is a pile of crap, that I am expected to sell to my mates, then THE PRC can RAM it.

Its been hard work trying to keep some people out. Its been harder trying to get people on a picket line. Now they want me to go back to those people and tell them that they gave up 4 weeks wages, on the off chance that the Union might get a deal in 4 weeks time. :mad :mad :mad I'm no fortune teller but guess what? I bet its gonna be CRAP.

We had them on the ropes in round 4, we should have kept punching until they through the towel in. Now they get a breather, a chance to recover and we start again FFS! :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad
I have to agree with ya m8 :Applause ...we gave up so many hours just to get a crappy 92p & 33p stake! What a joke, i just hope our union don't sell us down the river! :lfo and also to :cfo

Unfortunately mate, that would be music to Leighton & Crozier's ears, especially if you were in a majority.

WE are the union , if an unsatisfactory settlement's reached , WE tell them all to go and have a good wank for
themselves, and we launch a programme of IA in the autumn that'll have their heads spinning.

There's no doubt we've bitten RM in the nuts, bigtime. We can again, and again, and again, until they stop
taking us for granted. A philosophy your Robert the Bruce used to great advantage, if I remember my history
correctly. :cool

"Keep the faith"

Our union has done its job, and will continue.
It promised to call off strikes if proper talks resumed......They have to reach a positive agreement by september 4th or strikes continue.

Congratulations to all those that have taken part in the current IA so far :Applause
We have proved our voice is the union.

I think the union dug themselves a hole by saying that if RM entered meaningful negotiation's they would call off the strikes. RM have called their bluff and the PEC had no choice but to Suspend the strikes. Tactically this position was good for the union as it made the RM look like the bad guys. However strategically it may come back and bite them.

Now is not the time for faint hearts we trusted the union this far and they know how hard we fought. After previous episodes I don't see the Union coming up with a deal that would effectively be committing suicide, and cause members to quit en mass.

If the deals that have been recommended in the past are anything to go on, I'm buying shares in vasaline ready for September.

I spoke to a guy on an 8 hour Saturday contract this morning. I gave him a Union form as he was keen to support us, and he was willing to lose that pay and join us on the gate. :pray :pray :pray Please, Please Please :pray :pray :pray Let the people on here that still have faith be right.:pray :pray

If your wrong, come September, there will be some seriously pissed off people and a lot of people sending there cards back.

Come September...

Post by deadbox »

September......No deal / backlog cleared / members starting to save for XMAS

What are the chances of support for IA then eh ?

Time to start looking in the vacancy pages of the local paper.....

22 strings.....even if we TALK & meet them half way....thats still 11 STRINGS !

still at least BILLY won't have to fulfil any of them....
I was sure I'd seen a bead of sweat on my line manager the other day - Until I realised that he had just brushed past me too close
