The Union have been honest and open with everyone saying that IF talks made progress, as a gesture of good will, there would be a "period of calm" from both sides.
For me, I am sceptical about RM's reasons for talking at this stage- they know that the Union would call a strike to coinside with the August Bank Holiday weekend (and cause a bigger back log) and I can't but help think this is a ploy to get those possible strikes off the agenda.
RM would do their hardest to make the Union look bad if they announced fresh dates after announcing current strikes were off.

I would'nt like to see a suspension or cancellation, if we're no further forward than when we started, for me it's never been about pay, but what kind of job we might have in 10 or 15 years time.
In my office, people willing to strike are in the minority, and if we don't get a good agreement, I'll be leaving the union, I've princables that a lot of the strike breakers don't havet, they can keep the union, and see what happens to RM then!
I agree with others on here, the backlog etc is what we wanted, it effects us strikers as well, my son is waiting for something posted last Friday, but he knows it'sfor the best in the end, if we get what we want.

Agree or disagree the fact is the Union has said all along that if Royal Mail agree to serious meanigful talks then the strikes will be called off.
Also any employer will not negiotate whilst IA is happening.
We need to be calm see what happens and trust our Union we have so far by backing their call for a strike lets not fall apart now.

A matter of trust......
Any cancellation or deferral of IA at this stage will give RM the opportunity to catch up with their backlog. This would be reasonable IF we could trust RM's negotiating team to put an acceptable offer on the table by way of an increase in the pay offer and/or the withdrawal of conditions or practices that we disagree with.
Given their track record so far in being economical with the truth about pensions, potential bonus earnings and network changes allied to their flat refusal to previously consider our claims for improved terms I think the word trust is redundant in these negotiations.
If you have something nasty cornered and subdued - you don't step back a bit and give it room to spring at you.
A delaying tactic that left us starting again from scratch would be disastrous for us and frustrating in the extreme for our customers.
Keep the pressure on until we have an offer in writing - RM must be made to understand that the sooner they resolve the situation, the sooner they will regain control of their business to the benefit of all concerned[/b][/u]

but we all know that with a few very minor tweaks to the deal on offer and with people now feeling the pressure of lost money we will never get as strong a result as 77% and therefore lose some of our bargaining power. . . . . . we must get a very good deal before moving to a second voteTrueBlueTerrier wrote:Union cant accept it can they - they can recommend we accept it and then advise us and Royal Mail of the outcome of the ballot.blackadder wrote:i will wait and see but if union has accepted the deal my union card will be in the post to dave ward

OBVIOUS DELAYING TACTIC
The strikes have been called off for a month of "meaningful talks" then balloted again on a watered down version of RM plans the results will take another month that takes in september and october two of the heaviest months of the year. This is a obvious delaying tactic by :lfo :cfo .If this union agree to covering sick leave and summer lapsing i will not just be leaving the union i will be leaving the job.

Re: OBVIOUS DELAYING TACTIC
The strike isn’t off – its suspended to allow for up to 3 weeks of talks. The talks have to deliver an agreement. It’s important to recognize that the strike ballot is still valid at that point should we need to resume.stevie247 wrote:The strikes have been called off for a month of "meaningful talks" then balloted again on a watered down version of RM plans the results will take another month that takes in september and october two of the heaviest months of the year. This is a obvious delaying tactic by :lfo :cfo .If this union agree to covering sick leave and summer lapsing i will not just be leaving the union i will be leaving the job.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I fear An Adolf Hitler, Neville Chamberlin scenario.
I hope to god i'm wrong,but i wouldn't trust anything these two
b.....ds have to say.
On a more possitive note, it is still in our hands.
if the cwu come back to us with a pile of shite, vote it out.
Then back to the picket line.
I know some of us feel let down at the mo, but we have shown
not only the gruesome twosome, but also the CWU that we won't
lay down and be shafted.
Stay strong, we've f****d em once, we can do it again.

Sorry but thats bolloxstevie247 wrote:The strikes have been called off for a month of "meaningful talks" then balloted again on a watered down version of RM plans the results will take another month that takes in september and october two of the heaviest months of the year. This is a obvious delaying tactic by :lfo :cfo .If this union agree to covering sick leave and summer lapsing i will not just be leaving the union i will be leaving the job.
If people really believe that this is a ploy by RM to catch up then they are mad.
It will take us what 2 strikes to get them back in the s**t again and guess what we will be approaching xmas and they will really want a deal before then
Its obvious to me and has been for a couple of weeks that they are wobbling and panicking all over the place.
One fact everyone needs to understand this UNION will not agree to summer lapsing or covering sick leave that is a FACT.
I also think they maybe a red herring to get the real changes they want later starts monthly pay and cuts in nights and OT.
This is only my opinion.
