I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

3 years by my calculation...so much for improving terms and conditions...the union has failed the members at every conceivable level....

Talks went on until 1220 last night.

Re-started at 0830 today.

PEC about to meet to consider position.

Update expected nationally later

Nothing hasty at all, just pleased with the level of commitment shown, that surley is what we pay our subs for?

Dosent mean we are going to actually get anything good, but just shows that they have tried hard and done their best and its up to us to then determine if that best is good enough.

Latest press release from Dave Ward reads as follows:
PRESS RELEASE

Strikes Continue

Dave Ward, Deputy General Secretary says

“Due to the involvement of Brendan Barber as an independent third party and because for the first time, Royal Mail’s Managing Director, Mark Higson was directly involved in negotiations we have had the most useful and productive discussions over the last 3 days since the dispute commenced.

Earlier today we tabled a proposal as part of the process that reflected the progress made in negotiations over the last few days.

Had that proposal been agreed this would have enabled a period of calm and allowed further talks through ACAS with the intention of concluding a full and final agreement.

At this point of time, we have not had confirmation as to whether our proposal is acceptable and therefore the strikes previously announced for the next few days will take place.

We respect the confidentiality of the process currently managed by Brendan Barber, General Secretary of the TUC, and we are not prepared to comment on the detail of those discussions or our proposal.

This series of strikes and future strikes can still be avoided and we remain available for discussions at any time, including tonight. We remain committed to reaching an agreed resolution”.

It's just that the 'beer and sandwiches' comment harks back to the uncomprimising union days of old and has negative connotations about union chiefs professionalism. I'm sure they are far too dedicated to have beer in negotiations. Sandwiches yes!
