Get your hgv it's not a bad life if you enjoy driving. They don't pay your costs that's something you have to pay.

They used too pay and give you 2 weeks training. They mostly employ agency staff nowadays as they have the license to drive and hundreds have been employed in the last year. All on full time contracts as far as I know certainly at my office. The union does have something on the board at places like ndc but don't know of anyone who has done this myself.

Royal Mail do pay for your dcpc which is a 35 hour course and all hgv drivers have to one of these nowadays.

delivery rounds to be franchised out, Mail Centres sold off to individual companies and reduced in numbers again , Parcel Force would the first to be sold off.

Zero contracts more widespread and renegotiation of your current terms and conditions .Your pension rights to be eradicated.

The end of the universal service in its present state and the inflation of prices
Logistics will probably be the first to be franchised out or put out to contract, with a company like Eddie Stobbarts (can't think of any other haulage company that would have depots up and down the country), with any drivers of 7.5ton and up lorrys probably always driving when they are not loading, unloading or on a legal mandatory break
If Eddie Stobart or any other Logistics company come in and take over they will have to spend a fortune on some new kit a lot of the HGV fleet looking old and tired a lot with over a million k on the clock, and not forgetting the trailers. Gone will be the days of LGV drivers sat at mail centre's/hubs for hours with silly amounts of hours doing sweet FA. waiting for their trailer. A lot of drivers who come in from outside cannot beleive the way RM logistics is run. For example I know of a VOC the other week booked agency drivers and two logistics companies with drivers to cover runs which RM drivers were already covering. Outcome the agency drivers and logistics companies done the runs while the blokes who came into those runs were stood down or sent home that cost over £12k.Would this happen in the private sector, the only news at the VOC where I work comes either via e mail from CWU or through the website, the reps have now gone to ground and we only see anyone of any note when they want you to vote for them :Applause Mate of mine works for Eddie S. they will work you to your full driving hours available no stupid long breaks and yes you have new wagon's but heaven forbid if you scratch it :pray As a driver who has worked both inside and outside of RM and the view of most of my colleagues is that huge savings could be made in logistics and would agree that it would be one of the first to go. As for logistics companies who would take up running it, Eddie Stobart, Norbert Dentressangle, Wincanton to name but a few but Eddie Stobart would be the favourite as there a lot of them running for RM now, they can even deliver a tie for Dave Ward to wear :dance

I was there today.

Dave ward said not to worry if things slip a couple of days, he said membership lists are spot on, but there a couple of things they are working on with their lawyers after correspondence from rm.

Why is this thread even here, the title is misleading and as usual the CWU are being slated

Amazing :cuppa

So was I, the union list are spot on, the issue is of including privatisation on the ballot form. They are also looking at the legality of boycotting the dsa

Bad reporting, the union lists were reported as being spot on.

At least I know what he cwu want off the management now. 4 pages of lists and displayed on every board at ndc but not at any other office I went to last night. Apparently put out Friday. Just wondered if its on your delivery boards at the smaller offices?
