that arose because the union took the decision to fight for a better basic wage rather than allow posties to be reliant on overtime which could cease at any time. you may argue that has not happened but for the first in our MC many people have hardly any Xmas OT at all.OnAFlyer wrote:You mean the £26 a week pay rise, whilst at the same time losing Saturday premium, decent OT rates and night allowance when doing nights on OT?dingo wrote:As a result of this unoffical dispute the union got back into talks and got the national agreement for everyone in the UK on SDD and Major change which agreed the 5 day week , £26.28 pay rise biggest we have ever recieved , MTSF2 and the biggest London Weighting rise ever.
Now I suppose people forget that eposide and just want to enter into the blame game. Blaming London , blaming the PEC , Blaming the Officers . Well is it not time that you started to look at yourself and what you can do in your locallity if it is as bad as you say well what are you doing about it other than moan on here. Come on and explain. More than happy to help you move your local issues on and point you in the right direction,
I used to earn more for a working a Friday night 10 years ago than I do now.
So thanks for that fantastic agreement, that along with P&M 2007 was the worst thing that ever happened to us.

Many people can't see the wood for the trees, you kindly highlighted those items which fit your opinion and conveniently missed out the criteria which has been pointed out time after time but I have highlighted in red. I feel that this has been a salutary lesson in how not to conduct union affairs and negotiations but for some of us we didn't expect much, and that is what we got.Big Daz wrote:So what is in the London doc that is so bloddy fantastic they you good people are getting so upset about?
I can't see anything in it that says all your changes will be reversed, I can't see that 4 day weeks will definetley come back.
2.3 In all offices where change has been implemented in 2009 the local
parties will undertake a review. In offices where change has been
implemented without agreement the local parties will engage in genuine
negotiations to reach local agreement. In reviewing the current position
the mutual objective will be to identify improvements in line with the
full range of principles of the Pay and Modernisation Agreement 2007.
Specifically the local parties must address/resolve the following range of
issues:
• Overall job numbers and resourcing mix based on a fair and
transparent level of workload, working safely and utilising all paid
for hours
• Maintenance of reasonable earnings opportunities
• Improved efficiency
• Family friendly and innovative duty patterns. (Agreements may
include less than 5 day attendances where consistent with
effective workload alignment)
• Ensure employees feel motivated and valued
• The need for duty redesigns/ job allocation in line with existing
national agreements ie Way Forward and MTSF
• Need to meet service specification
Divisional reps and regional teams will be available to help this process.

"however in many areas the will is not there. the solidarity and togetherness is absent and the Management will take advantage. for example, i know a colleague that works in a small DO in the rural SW and the vast majority in his office worked over the strikes and come in early and work their meal reliefs etc most days. it is understandable , they are frightened to lose their jobs because there is no other work about and the management exploit this situation"
Ok.Borders,Fair enough but what do we do with these offices, leave them to rot.Is that what this union means now.
It is not the unions job to pick and choose which areas it protects
The union needs to be strong at national level to protect these "weaker" offices.
Not throw them to the dogs under the guise of local agreements.
Yes,dingo Local agreements have been around for a long time and that is nothing to be proud of.
But now they are seen as a management tool to fragment the union and control offices at a local level.
As i've said before, the content of this "London arrangement" is irrelevent.
It is the damage it does at national level that interests me.
RM have been able with the help of the union to "ringfence" London.
That must make any national negotiation all the more difficult with Royal Mail now knowing that any slim chance of re-instating national industrial action has all but evaporated with half the country "thinking" that London has it's own deal.
BTW dingo that does not make them "narrow-minded" it is just that they have jobs and families and no time for the politics and history lessons of the union.
History is after all just one man's opinion of past occurrences and politics well.............

Re: London interim agreement joint statement doc
Borders the way forward agreement which John Keggie negotated in 2000 was the one that lost Saturday premium and NDA and overtime , improved holiday pay. But it also made most allowances pensionable and half of night allowance and made them payable when indivduals are on leave and sick leave for two months.
In 2003 we simply got £26.28 for changing from 2 deliveries to 1 and for the transport review and mail centre reviews. Now overtime hourage has reduced over the years that is true but that was on the basis that we all wanted to improve basic pay for everyone not just those who performed overtime. Now I can recall when we used to get double time after 12 hours overtime and they cut that in 1988.

Royal Mail London and CWU London? I didn't know there was such a thing - I mean a subsidiary organisation - just as a point of interest, and I wouldn't want to be contentious, do those two organisations support themselves financially, or is it all for one and none for some?

Dvbuk the joint comms was designed by Royal Mail London region and the London Divisonal Reps hence the Royal Mail London and the CWU London statments. All Divisons have done this in the past.

I'm sad to admit that it does seem to be that as soon as London starts to get sorted everyone else just gets left to their own devices, I can't believe I'm going to say this but it appears that the management where right in that this whole dispute was only for London and not anywhere else. Maybe it's time that the leadership got off their arses and came around the country to actually see what is still going on.

We havent had a meeting to discuss the interim agreement, our DOM has already stated that he cant go back on the executive action, and we have already been told that they want 13% savings for next year. We have reported it up to Division, but the seriousness of the situation gets seems to get watered down. The area rep has had to call a meeting with the ASM for this Monday to discuss the non-compliance. Its been 4 weeks since I.A was stopped and this pile of crap interim shafting was introduced and we are no further forward. But hey, guess what? We are only an office of 220 and havent got the clout of London so our office wont matter.

Re: London interim agreement joint statement doc
It seems to me somebody with the London region/division of the CWU had their thinking cap on utlised the interim agreement ACAS help section. I say well done to them
I would suggest that the rest of the country could benefit from London CWU input.

KH
The policy on monthly pay is the same as that which was made in 2007.
That policy is that as part of phase 4 talks RML and CWU will look at how to implement monthly pay.
Dave Ward made it very clear at the time that if monthly pay agreement was reached it would subject to a membership ballot in order for the membership to make the decision.

That was part of Phase 4 of the P&M 2007 Agreement so it will be under discussion. So the answer is "Not Yet" but we could be at some point in the next few moths/years.
