Another limey , very good but what is your info based on ? As like I have said I have visited Gatwick mail centre and Eastbourne delivery office to see the whole process.

I've been told walk machines put machine bundles in order of deliverys, been told because they need to read more than your basic machine bundle that they kick up more IPS for the office, Been told that for a regular postman on a round that the bundles in order save little time prep wise as the officer knows his or frame anyway.

I'm going on what i'm told and i guess you have seen it, However i know a postmans job, 21 years on the beat so to speak, I'm just worried about being scewed over with all this "Modernation" crap and you at the top of the union blindly going along with it.

My D.O is getting WS mail next month as part of the trial of the new iLSM at the mail centre. It's only 3 months behind schedule

Well you have been told wrong..

The machines have the capiticity of doing 27000 items per hour. Each batch of work appoxmately 12 walks have to have 3 passes. The time consuming bit is that the machines have to be cleared down 3 times.

The second percentage of work 40% does not start to be run through the machines until 0600. So once the batches run through the machines it then has to be transported to the Delivery offices which means 40% of work arrives considerably later than now..

The work is in sequencing order so your walk is prepped in order so you simply prep in order of your frame rather than sorting work to any part of your frame. The problem is that it becomes very repetive.

It is repetitive and also quite painful prepping the top row but that's modernisation for you.
But you are missing the point dingo.
It's not just that we don't want longer spans,We don't think we can phisically manage longer spans.

Thing is RM have been banging on about H/S and having zero yes zero accidents on duty,
What do they expect, when in order to finnish on time, us to run around No way
seems RM don't want us to have a life outside as sometimes we are too knacked to do anything

Im told by my DOM that the WS mail coming out of the iLSM will contain at the end, mail for the next delivery along. So at the end of walk 1 you would have mail for walk 2 and at the end of walk 2 you would have mail for walk 3 and so on.

The end of our trays contain rejects,Walksorted but not sequenced.

Thought I better find out from the horses mouth so I made contact with an Eastbourne worker, asked for a simple report. He told me ,"managers reckon 15 mins saving on IPS ,but I don't think it's that much", asked about prep time,"some days it saves a lot for me.being a reserve ,if it's a new frame and a pig of one, but permanent duty holders say the saving is next to nothing".
Anybody from the Bristol or Gatwick trials think that this picture is way off the mark? Not much point making it up or burying your head in the sand is there? What good would that do?
If I was to guess, I'd say it was an RM balls up and the vast amount of cost incurred with sequencing has in no way been justified by the pitiful savings generated(seems like posties were more efficient than management thought)Someone is going to screw lots more work out of us to cover their own back and justify a very poor business decision

Yeah, same as us at present, but what I am saying is what will happen once walk sequencing is introduced. I believe this is imminent in the new year.
