There should be a time limit on the length of office.................3 years per term and no more than 2 terms..............it works in a democracy like America. That should also run through the whole organisation including PEC and Area and Div Reps and there should then be a bar for a full term before the candidate can be considered again. Anyone think that would be carried at conference?........................no me neither.

Oh well I won't rejoin the union til Hayes has gone. So looking on the bright side that's another 5 years I won't be paying any subs!

An excellent and positive suggestion

No doubt some will claim financial strictures make it impractical , but I think we all know where we spend cash that could be put to better use

The only thing I would question about dvbuk suggestion is the possibility of revolving door for the GS positions - a bit like Putin has been doing - putting your own man up for the position controlling it from the shadows and stepping forward at the due time. Like the idea of Area, Div and Regional reps doing it though, there is no way they would be out of touch then, having to back to their duty every few years

That is a point BUT how much harder would the incumbent work to ensure a second term thus having the original incumbent out for 6 years? Of course there is another alternative, the GS and ALL permanent posts should NOT be elected but employed by the membership............you do a good job you keep it, you do a bad job..........you're out on your ear. It would open up a new era for union membership whereby there is a disaffiliation from the political arena and a more focused approach to what should be the main business which is the pay and conditions of the members.

I always get voting slips for uninteresting minor jobs in the union not get the chance to vote for someone important. I am not interesting in voting for small time officer for West Midlands, who I will not likely to use or meet.
