Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
Anyone who WAS expecting a pay rise must be living in cloud cuckoo land anyway. Everyone moans at how little the rise is so no one will miss it will they. Better to be in a job than no job I say. Annoying yes, but not the end of the world. Unless......ah yes we could all go on strike. Nice one.

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
BT tried exactly the same tactics , it's all race to the bottom - they didn't bank on Jeannie Drake though . Some of us have worked through recessions and got pay rises . You can guarantee that the weasel worded blood sucking parasites , Belail mentions get pension & pay rises .themoog wrote:You see I was expecting this, so I have adjusted my finances by giving up smoking, not going to the pub as often, moving nearer to work (within cycling distance), taking a pack up into work with me, getting cheaper car insurance etc etc.
All in I'm more than £200 better off now than I was before xmas, and a basic wage pays me enough now.
I am officially pay freeze AND recession proof!
Even Lord Haw Haw's site say it's immoral .

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
I can't believe the we shouldn't expect a pay rise in this environment line.... This is exactly what RM want. They have put this letter out to test the water. They want to go back to the CWU saying that members understand their position.
If you take their SINGLE argument in isolation them maybe they could have a case. yes the economy isnt in the best shape but we differ from most employers for a number of reasons.
..... We have just annoucement massive profits.
...... The Government are committed to taking on board the Pensions issue. This would free up AT LEAST 280m per year over net 15 yrs (amount RM had committed to repaying scheme)
...... MODERNISATION. Units right across the UK are being savaged in the name of modernisation. Do RM honestly expect us to believe that the cuts they are making nationwide are not helping to INCREASE their profits.
..... We are in the public sector. We cannot fall into this trap of 'its happening everywhere' The majority of these companies are private. No doubt the Government will have a hand in this plan as if they can get away with us having no rise then nurses, police etc will be next.
..... They are saying they have no money but they'll pay us the 400 pound each. 1 this money would be better off in basic pay. We would then see the benefit every week in our basic wage and pension. 2 If we get our 400 then that would mean have made record profits - hardly a solid background to have a pay freeze! 3. around 200,000 people would get the 400. Thats £80m... Surely a company in trouble can hardly afford to spend out that amount of money on a bonus.
The next few weeks will be critical. We will all be subjected to the brainwashing and the nicey nicey approach from RM (the its happening everywhere stance). We need to make sure management take back the message that we will not accept a payrise. We need to question whether the likes of Crozier will follow the lead of other CEOs and turn down his bonus and also it may be appropriate to ask questions about the golden handshake Leighton would have received!!
Lets not fall into the we're lucky to have a job mindset. Yes times are tough but we have a job and we deserve to be treated fairly and deserve good terms and conditions.
I Feel a big campaign coming on :)

Re: no pay rise this year
It's time you got back to the real world and stop imagining things are the same as they were when you were employed as a postman - if you've retired or getting your pension you got a rise on that wef April - that is funded by the contributions of todays workforce - the staff turnover is enormous because of the short term contracts, how many part time contracts were in effect when you were employed?fmrPOSTIE wrote:Erm yes you do have job security, nobody is forced out of Royal Mail we all know that! Most private sector companies have imposed a pay freeze this year, get a f***ing grip. And perhaps if you did accept a pay freeze with negotiations then RM may be in a better financial position in the future. The profit made was measley given the subsidy by the govt.oypostie wrote:Must have imagined the 10% budget cuts and the fact that about 1 in 5 in my office could be going. Job security. Don't think soWhy should RM give a pay rise this yr? thankfully everyone has a secure job

Love your first point, just watch this thread draw out all the management stooges;poltroons ,patsies and perhaps the terminally DIM.lovejoy wrote:I can't believe the we shouldn't expect a pay rise in this environment line.... Got to disagree with the second point though, take any of their arguments and not a one holds water.
You missed out the claim about E-mail substitution , if anyone at all can quote from a definitive research study from anywhere worldwide that backs up this assured claim that losses to the internet can be quantified I would be very keen to look at the results(Me ,I can't find one, not a single solitary one) So until someone does then that old chestnut for me ,will be just another propaganda trick, tell a lie over and over and over again and somehow you all swallow it
A word of warning to any daft enough to waver under the inevitable shitstorm of capitalist propaganda that will surely follow, If you lick arse this year ,be prepared to do the same for the next ten years ,cos this my friends is just the start of a mega depression

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
And for all who are on here i think we all know that pay would be frozen ? for how long? and why if the CEO :cfo YES HIM can do as he pleases and do one (disappear when it gets hot under his collar) and GAIN MORE AND MORE PAY FOR HIS ABJECT PERFORMANCE!. If is good for the goose it is good for the gander why should we all risk life and limb for his bonus and his minions!.

The message has to be cascaded to all members, No cars on delivery, No overweight bags, No co-operation to ANY savings. Absolutely No goodwill whatsoever. It isnt about putting the boot in to the management it is about saying to RM that we cannot be undervalued.

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
In a couple of months we'll see the Directors recieving their annual bonus of £millions.
Next year they will say that things have faired better than expected and we can offer you a 1% increase in pay which is 100% up on last year.

Re: RM TO ANNOUNCE PAY FREEZE
Well how did it go down at work then.
Nearly caused a riot at my DO and I am not kidding - there were calls for an immediate unofficial stoppage straight away. Also when we were bagging up people started shouting - ALL OUT - STRIKE - ALL OUT, STRIKE.
IMPO I think RM might be playing the long game on this, they know big strikes are coming and a National Strike is a distinct possibility and they will use the Pay Freeze as the real reason we are going on strike and not all the additional parts. The Union will have to play this VERY VERY carefully I hope and pray they are up to it.
