Most of the postmen in my office say they voted no,I dont think I believe alot of them coz most of the twats STILL come in before there time and dont take their meal relief, even the senior guys on easy walks. :arrrghhh
Seriously considering jacking the union in,the blokes I work with just aint worth fighting for.I'll carry on doing my job by my 318 mind out of principle(no overweight bags, unsafe drops etc.),I just feel Billy and Dave have put our local reps in an impossible situation. The deal I think will end up as the death nell of our union

FOR HE LIKE'S TO TAKE BRIBE'S ON THE SIDE NO QUESTION'S ASKED MAYBE WE SHOULD ALL ASK QUESTION'S OF THIS GOVERNMENT!.

POSTAL VOTING IN THE CWU

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

The one thing that does concern me is that the general perception of mass postal balloting has been discredited with various reports over the last few years:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bradford/7094371.stm November 2007

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/6078654.stm - 2006
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/mers ... 773569.stm 2006

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/ ... 516277.stm 2005

Why is the union still using this method. Surely its possible to have a similar system set up for local branches such as they use in General Elections and use voting booths.

Just remember we all have a vote when the next election comes around.
Although 40,000 half-wits in this union probably will not use it. :left:

Personally I can`t see the point of reverting back to regualr saturdays simply because you end up going into work 1.5 hrs earlier to only end up finishing 15 minutes sooner... :d'oh!

Would sooner spend that extra time in bed...

Also a lot of DO`s over this way are saying that if saturdays do go back to 5 am then mailsort is going back in to gaurantee people work their hrs.. :arrrghhh
what are you on about we take mailsort every saturday anyway, are we being stitched and yes i would rather have extra time in bed,f**k getting up 4.20 on a saturday morning, i want my life back and 46.000 to lose there jobs, spineless twats.
we take mailsort on saturday in my office as well, well 95% do, i dont because as i said to my line manager 2 weeks ago on a saturday, if im booking overtime on average 4 days a week i wont finish in time on saturday and wont ever work past my finishing time if my local football team is at home(which they were that day)

We must be the only union that has it's ballot papers distributed and returned for counting by the very business with which it is invariably in conflict. That procedure alone should give rise to suspicion and doubt about ANY result whether for or against the motion on the ballot. The papers should in future be distributed via branch officials and signed for by each recipient.

No, I don't think that they will ever be found. It's a bit like the Bermuda Triangle, isn't it?

I think that the best way to solve this in the future, would be to choose one site in each area, and do the Voting in person. That way, everyone would have to sign for their Ballot Paper, and put it into a locked Ballot Box. It works for Government Elections, so why not us?

The vote counting itself isn't in dispute as thats done independently but what you're saying then is that Royal Mail nobbled/rigged the vote or the CWU did?

It's not the counting that I doubt

It's not the counting of the votes that worries me. As you said yourself, that is done by an independant body. The problem as I see it, is that the Ballot Papers were Posted to us, and then we Posted them back. All of this was done in a fairly short period of time, while there are still major backlogs. It is entirely possible that Ballot Papers were lost in the system, either on their way TO Members, or on thier RETURN jurney.

It was hardly the ideal way to conduct things, was it?

Nope, you're right there although I'm not convinced we'd still have got a NO vote by the law of averages.

Its the perception, not the result

Post by andy2007 »

Although I am bitterly dissapointed that we didn't get a NO vote, that's not what I am complaining about. It's the PERCEPTION of how the Ballot was conducted which is the problem.

This deal will have a huge impact, not just on us, but the Service we provide. As a result, it invokes extreme emotions. So any inadequacies in the Ballot proceedure, particularly on such a large scale, is bound to cause more upset. The fact that the missing votes wouldn't neccessarily effect the overall result, is beside the point.

We can only hope that lessons are learned from this fiasco, and that they find a more reliable way of doing Ballots in the future.
