New Strike Dates

The union have got this arse about face. Should have been rolling strikes first, beginning next week, for 2 to 4 weeks and these 48 hour jobs on the back of that. There`s a gap from the 9th to the 15th (including a weekend)when the rolling strikes begin, an opportunity for people to do o/t etc (you just know they will) and clear at least some of the backlog. The waverers will also use this to justify not striking and say it`s pointless. Furthermore those that scab on these 48 hour strikes are not going to strike come the rolling ones are they.
Anyway now we`re in this position it`s imperative there`s no calling them off talks or no talks.
Finally I`d like to know, are the union going to keep to their word and:
1 Kick the strike breakers out under rule 14.
2 Take the agencies to court for providing people to do strike work

I understand your feeling, but i have to agree with the union.
First they have to have a potenial big stick which scares RM to the table and two 48 hours strike will hopefully refocus their minds.
They don't have to use the BIG STICK if rm repsonds.
Second, if needed it will quickly get us back to the postion when the strikes were suspended. Then the next rolling strikes will balance disruption against the need to fill our pockets.

this could be way too much for a lot of people,the problem is that no one seems to know anything all i get at work is, have you heard ,and is it true that, from everyone we need a full honest mail out to every rm employee not just union members about everything that has been said or implied by both sides since day one,the days of people blindly following orders from the union are coming to and end people need to figure things out for themselves,some come on cwu shift your arse and earn those massive wages we are paying you COMMUNICATE NOW WITH EVERYONE.

HAVE BEEN HEARING SOMETHING THAT MADE ME SMILE THOUGH, IT SEEMS OUR STRIKE BREAKING FRIENDS AT OUR RURAL SATALITE OFFICES ARE GOING MAD AND COMPLAINING THAT THE UNION ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT HOW THIS IS GOING TO AFFECT THEM,EVEN THOUGH THEY WORK THROUGH ALL STRIKES AND ARE NOT MEMBERS OOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPS PIGEONS COMING HOME TO ROOST METHINKS

I see what you mean. What I don`t like about this more than anything is that gap between the 48 hours strikes and rolling. It has to be continous pressure, no let up. During the rolling at least we took heart from the fact that each day someone, somewhere was on strike. In 2 weeks they were in the s**t.
I`ve heard people moaning already about these 48 hour strikes. Number 1 priority should have been to keep the support as high as possible and it was in the rolling strikes. I believe 98% support for rolling strikes sends out a stronger message than say, just for example, 75% for the 2 dayers.
On hearing waverers moaning today about it though it was pointed out that there haven`t been any strikes for 5 weeks so that`s 5 days pay they wouldn`t of had if the rolling strikes had continued (assuming they had continued to support it)
They also have the opportunity to do o/t in the coming 2 weeks before it kicks off.

Nothing better for the press than to see large volumes of mail in yorks sitting in depot yards. Now is the time to go for it, you won't get another chance like it.

The only problem is the financial implications and the history of all out strikes never having the desired effect.

The rolling strikes were an innovative and quite a good idea, but the public weren't sure if you were on strike or not.

As an outsider the previous strikes whilst getting some press coverage never quite hit home and the public didn't get up in arms as it seemed most of their mail was getting there.

Maybe you disagree but a couple of 48hr strikes isn't going to bother most people. Any urgent stuff will be sent by couriers, special deliveries generally get delivered by mgmt, most other stuff can wait a couple of days

Okay special dels done by management on first day of strike but after that RM says not guarannted And Joe public can use TNT etc for next day deliveries But wait until they see how much it will cost them compared to 34p

Don't think they've been set yet! CWU hoping the 2 back to back will have RM back to the table. Take a look at the letter to Dave Ward - it doesn't look very conciliatory to me.
