I am a man of integrity and haven't had a day off sick for over three years, however injustices like this sorely tempt me, grrrrrr.

Huh, isn't that, like, the day AFTER Xmas day? Btw I'm long weekend off so does anybody know for definite if I'll get days in lieu back for boxing day and the Monday b/h?
Monday Yes - Saturday No
How come? So that week I'm a day off down on the rest who aren't sat off, doesn't seem right or fair to me at all.
I think the reason you don't get it back is because its not an official, or statutory day off, its just a day where no-service will be provided. If no service is being provided then there is no point to bringing the workers in,in fact it would be more expensive to do so, as the revenue made wouldn't cover the costs.

Is it unfair, probably, but then when the bosses try to "clawback" the hours you have a perfect defence, the others will probably have a fight on their hands.

For gods sake, shame on the telegraph and daily fail for even publishing this clap trap. Do they know how bloody hard we work over Christmas? And taking the stance that some poor little kid is going to miss out on his star wars toy is laughable to say the least. Its one extra day for crying out and as the RM spokesperson logically explained - post as early as you can! It's like they're making out we're the bad guys here. Good to see the labour MP has nothing better to do than spout utterly clap trap! Honestly, no wonder this country is in the state its in!!!

Its because Boxing Day is on a Saturday and with the usual Sunday off means there is a four day break of mail instead of the usual two because Monday is being classed as a bank holiday.

earlier in my time with royal mail i remember talking to the most senior man who was at our office then ,
and he told me about the time they used to deliver on xmas day , he said the only plus was that a lot of his customers would insist on giving him a drink so he was very merry

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
