Really dont see why this is a union matter, the union is there to look after our working terms and conditions( a job the CWU doesn't exactly do very well ) not get involved in debates like this.

Re: CWU calls for 'no' vote in Scottish referendum
I am totally disgusted with the cwu union over this issue, so much so i've just cancelled my membership, to go public and back a no vote without seeking the views of it's scottish members through a ballot first is nothing short of a disgrace, i'd already cancelled the political levy from my fees as i don't see eye to eye with the union on their backing of the morally repugnant labour party but to go public with the backing of a no vote was the straw the broke the camels back for me, very poor show from the cwu.

What is with all the "Disgusted from Gretna Green"?
The CWU is closely tied to the Labour Party.
Of course they are going to reiterate the call of their masters.
And who cares?
Is anyone going to change the way they think just because conference has advised something?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: CWU calls for 'no' vote in Scottish referendum
It's not so much the fact that anyone might change their mind on the way they may vote, it's the fact a decision like the one the union has taken will be another stick the bbc/print media will use to batter the idea of independence with, it's already being reported as "cwu scottish members reject independence" when this is not the case, union reps turned up for a couple of days jolly at bournemouth and decided for it's 17k members in scotland that they would be best served voting no without so much as seeking their views first.clashcityrocker wrote:What is with all the "Disgusted from Gretna Green"?

I'll no longer pay £170 or so a year to a union who don't give a toss to bother asking it's members how they feel on such an important issue.

Re: CWU calls for 'no' vote in Scottish referendum
The CWU's National Executive Committee recommended a 'no' vote based on the outcome of two branch forums, a series of independent member meetings and two polls of members. The results of these polls showed the majority of Scottish members would vote 'no' (60%) and 26.3% of members would vote 'yes'.cutting off wrote: union reps turned up for a couple of days jolly at bournemouth and decided for it's 17k members in scotland that they would be best served voting no without so much as seeking their views first.

http://newsnetscotland.com/index.php/sc ... sh-members" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The Scotland No2 Branch of the CWU made a decision at its AGM in March this year to support the Yes Scotland campaign and to affiliate to Trade Unions For Independence. To date, it is the only CWU branch that has asked its members the question on independence.
Mr Marshall added: "The CWU members in Scotland, especially the ones employed by Royal Mail, are sick to death being ruled by a Governments that they did not vote for. We would hope over the coming weeks that our members take this opportunity to attend these meeting being held all over Scotland and get their views across."

'Jumping to safety'
Mr Sillars said: "The Labour movement in Scotland actually permanently now carries the English middle class on its back, because to win in Westminster the Labour Party has to pander to middle England, and you cannot pander to middle England and at the same time deliver the working class policies that we require in Scotland."
And what of the working class in England, Wales and Northern Ireland? He offered a stark analogy about Scotland's choice.
He said: "If there were two people on the deck of the Titanic, one could jump to safety and the other, for a variety of reasons, could not do so, and the one who could not do so said to the one who could: 'Out of solidarity, I want you to drown along with me.'
"I think any sensible person's answer would be: 'Well, that would be very nice but I'm jumping to safety'."

Re: CWU calls for 'no' vote in Scottish referendum
The problem is that if you vote Labour you are voting FOR mass immigration. And if you don't like it then they call you racist. As as happened to me in my office due to the looney left element that is the CWU there. They don't understand, or don't want to listen to the argument about lack of housing, jobs etc for these people. The union have no right to tell anyone how they should vote. Especially as the loony left have betrayed every one of us by supporting privatisation and the raping of our pensions by taxing the dividends.Dumpys Rusty Nuts wrote:The same union that tells you to vote labour. YES the labour part that gave us Tony B Liar , Peter Mandelson, and the biggest lie of all WHICH NOT A SINGLE PERSON ON THIS SITE HAS EVER ANSWERED ME ON IMMIGRATIONnewtimes wrote:Should a union be telling us how to vote, a yes vote would mean that in Scotland the postal service would come back into public ownership is that what the CWU are against. If there is ever a break away group from the CWU I would go too.The No group has the backing of the condems. I am not saying that the No vote is right or wrong, but what is lower than a rattle snake belly in a cart rut is the CWU decision to back a side in a very divided situation without a clear mandate from the Scottish members, or is this just a "london" based organisation dictating to a minority group north of the border. Very poor leadership, we know that already though.
