some postmen admitted to me, when we talked about this, I also mentioned the potential consequences of making a rod for your own back, that "we are our own worst enemy" which is quite true, many do it as it seemed th eeasiest way to go about the job.

I personally start to my time no earlier, I used to get grief off manager about "the last Postman managed why not you" til I said I start to my time, no earlier. no using my cars, he really didnt have much to say to that.

I am now on the Vans, again I do the job the way it should be done, no more or less. there is no incentive to do so as I would just get jumped on for extra Jobs and missing my meal breaks, I tell them no, I am nobodies brew bitch.

Thanks to RMC, and my finally waking up to reality, I've been doing the job properly since the start of summer and I feel a damn sight better for it.

Less pressure on me, more on my manager to get me out on the round - the way it should be!

I really hope more and more start doing the job properly - otherwise they will only have themselves to blame for longer walks.

RM want us all to work to our time (which is only fair in all honesty), but they will try and do this by giving us MORE than we can fit in (with the hope that those who cut corners will do it for free).

I am on leave at the moment but one of the guys e mailed me to say a notice had gone up at work to the effect that anyone who used their cars who was thinking of refusing to use it had to inform the management by Monday 1st and that those cars had to remain on the car park and the postmen return by bus from their delivery.

Any others had this notice or is it the DOMs idea of cleverness?

Started this week as of Monday working to HS rules. Beauty of a day today, breaking down into 13 bags!!! Manager is under the impression that since I am alone in my office on this (at the mo'!) that it won't effect him. Well, I'll be booking a nice chunk of OT today, as will the driver who was serving me. Tomorrow looks the same and I won't be working on for him.
Sadly, not making any friends in the office as tomorrow I am apparently having a meeting with my DOM, driver and fella who shares the van to discuss my actions and how their effecting them. Heheheehe!!! I'm sorry to piss off my fellow workers but if they can't get it that we need to do this then so be it. I can't see how they can accept the unions advice when it comes to strike action, losing a days pay, but when it comes to following HS guidelines and getting paid for it, they don't want to know?! Strange folk....

Are they doing the job properly? If not then tell them to. When deliveries fail because people are following the correct procedure then something will need to be done. If they plan on starting early, work through teir breaks and cut corners, just to finish early, then more will be added to their duties. Can't they see that if the manager wants to cut hours out of the office, he will target those he knows are finishing before their time. He won't care if they work through their break. He'll just say to them that they should have taken it before they left the building, knowing full well that they won't. Hey presto the DOM gets another 40 mins work for nothing.

Don't let them intimidate you.

Not so sure about the second,ive done 21 years service and yes have a better walk

You can do it when you want,he has no right to give you a deadline!!!!!!

Also depending on how your office works,and your 318's they should/could have to pick you up.
If not,you cut off earlier to get back for your finishing time.

Funny you should say that. Neither of them do the job properly and there is a partial revision in the pipeline (been delayed due to IA!) where the driver will be getting an increased workload. However, the planned revision was worked out with me carrying overweight bags so that he would not need to drop any to me. With me now taking this H+S line, he will find that he will be unable to complete with the extra bag drops.
Don't worry about intimidation as the first sign of anything like that, I will call an end to the meeting and, if any harrasment persists, I will take action. It would be a sorry day if it came to that (and I doubt that it would) but I would not be afraid of taking such measures. To tell the truth, I think my driver is more understanding than the postie I share the van with. He is more likely to cause problems....and I wanted to ask him about swapping days off next week!!

Small office with no rep sadly! I was the rep briefly but I had too much to do at home to keep up with the workload so had to pack it in. Must admit that there was also very little support too (more backstabbing going on than in the Ides of March!)....very stressful! Since I backed down 3 years ago, noone has been willing to step into the position. Any problems now have to be relayed by phone to area reps but it's no good on a day to day basis when sometimes you need immediate answers. Still, as you said, I'm not doing nowt wrong!

When I was called into the office with my DOM, I never used the term "cutting off", I stressed that I wanted to deliver ALL the mail within my duty time, but that I was doing the job properly - the RM way.

Nothing they could do about it, except try and be awkward - but as long as you follow the rules............... they are stuffed not you.

Meeting with others didn't happen for some reason, though I have had a little chat with my DOM who now thinks me using a High Capacity Trolly will resolve matters. I only had 11 bags today....Anyway, I'll probably make a seperate topic asking this but does anyone here have any experience using one of these gizmos? How much is using one going to slow me down, as I stop to lock it up every so often, etc?
I think that I've influenced one other member too...he's on leave over the next couple of weeks but when he returns, he's considering going down the HS route. Result!!!

Make sure you dont overload 105kg Max,(Less if you go up hills with one,check the lighten the load document)
Yes they do slow you down you are pushing them along with 1 hand and your bundle in the other.Make sure you have a trolley lock with one and always lock it up when its out of sight.
Most important make sure you Walk has been risk assesed to use one
