Although the dates should not have been leaked yet,as i don't even think RM know of them yet,the reason that the 1st one is 25th September,is because Brown is making a speech to the Public and the Queen that day!
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Heard today, strike 25th September and late starts as of 8th October. Also flexible working, meaning that your attendance could be adjusted by two hours, plus or minus on a daily basis. One o'clock finishes on a Saturday, plus
being given any duty in which you are trained on at any time. Also working a shorter period in quiet times and the hours to be owed in a time of heavy pressure eg Christmas. On top of this you could even be sent to work in local offices if need be. Some people need to realise that now it's war and get their heads out of the sand. We're not dealing with a reasonable employer, these people are destroying our jobs -MAKE YOUR STAND!

But this strategy has many problemsthe beautiful bd south wrote:My believe is that an overtime ban/work to rule would be more successful than striking this would have and impact everyday as we all know the business is run on overtime and the mail would soon mount up....
IT would be difficult to police/enforce in many offices
It would have a less dramatic effect in sectors other than delivery
The possibilities for fragmenting the workforce would be greater.
There is adanger of gradual erosion
It would give management greater opportunity to isolate, victimise and remove our more vocal and commited members.
It should if practical be done but i think it would be mistaken to rely on this tactic as our sole weapon

Lets have a wee peeksie into the crystal ball and see what Royal Mail were wanting on one subject - functional flexibility.
People will cover any work that they have been trained to do in the hours they have been scheduled to work each day. We want a mature relationship with Managers, trade unions and employees working together to create a responsive and agile organisation, which can react to customer needs and difficult operational circumstances, for example in delivery offices there would be full indoor co-operation to ensure the indoor task is completed and gets all deliveries out as scheduled.
Some examples:
High absence levels in unit, unforeseen,
* Driver asked to take part of a walk to assist.
* Adjacent deliveries asked to take a street, couple of streets or part of walk.
* Callers office, A plus employee asked to cover a walk or part walk.
* In Mail Centres any colleague who works in the unit will cover any task trained to do. Driver, warehouse and processing.
Colleagues request short notice leave request.
* Colleagues on adjacent walks agree to cover elements of walk.
* Switch one person into callers office and cover walk by flexing walks and hours.
* LSM colleagues requires time off or leave, manual sorters covers LSM.
Bulk Postings comes in at relatively short notice, severe weather causes excessive delay to arrivals etc:
* A number of people asked to come in slightly earlier to deal with increased IPS. 6.00am instead of 6.30am.
* Due to arrivals not connecting to due day, people finish earlier than expected so come in slightly earlier next day to cope with later arrivals.
* Due to either of the above people complete their walks to ensure service without cutting off.
* Mail Centre people stay later on shift to clear work and where possible come in later the next day.
Collection duty uncovered.
* A colleague covers part of the collections or all of it.
More than normal complex duty needs to be covered and normal trained / suitable colleague not available, example rural duty with named properties or sparse demographics.
* Move any colleague who has covered duty in past, or has experience of the area or task to the more complex duty.
To ensure we are fair and consistent to our people and an individual believes the request is unresonable or that they are requested to change tasks etc, on a regular basis they can put their case forward through or agreed grievance procedure, but they should complete the task they have been asked to do.
Oh feck! me crystal ball is getting rather murky and I canna see what sh** is gonna happen next - or can I!

Have to admit i am not a fan of an "all out"strike, the rolling strikes worked a treat,if all the staff did their job correctly....ie....used the vans, wieghed the bags and got 2nd pouches dropped out,it would'nt take long for the system to clog up.My office Watford were clogged up for weeks and there may still be a backlog(i've been off for 2 weeks)i have seen vans from outside the area with managers in some afternoons when i have been out and about.
dont permissum bastards frendo vos down

Functional Flexibility
So basically it's Yes Sir , No Sir , how high shall I jump sir , three bags full sir -The 90's age of deference -all take & no give , turning the clock back 80-90 years , the Board and thier Senior Mgrs are obviously of that era so it's nice to see RM are catching up to the Real World , some way to go though !. Also are staff up to this enforced overtime and it's teamwork by stealth because it's exactly what RM want , staff at each other's throats because someone doesn't do 12hrs etc , thus intentionally sidelineing the Union. B&H cases would go through the roof but they'd be downgraded to Greviances . You'd get this dated last in the office macho mentality . Leighton and his clones turn up at six o'clock on Saturday mornings because they are sad B*****ds with nothing better to do .
Morrisons used to play that time in lieu game , Security was notorious i.e. " You CAN go home after 14hrs "-all on the cheap. McDonalds used to send staff home when they were slack it turned out the staff were effectively on £1-2 per hour until that practice was stopped in Court.
You get flexibility if supervisors and higher have got Man Management skills and are able to motivate & inspire in the Private Sector . RM mgrs couldn't run whelk stalls .
As for Mail Centres the regular LSM staff don't want untrained manual sorters , you'd only be making MORE work for others later . At 0500hrs you just want to go home as you are exhausted on Distribution . Also what about female staff , last buses etc , I can remember M****y the book saying it wasn't the Post Office's problem so a young lady would have to walk 2 1-2 miles home then at a risk. When she played hell RM backed down . We've had all that corporate s*** outside .

"do your job properly"... there are at least three part timers at our office who are in EVERY SINGLE DAY an hour to two before their time. one is even in before me (full time) pretty much every day. they spend the morning before they are due to start (unpaid, of course) cutting and tipping mail on the orders of the management. this despite the union rep telling them to A) don't start till you're due and B) if you must come in early then only box your own road in - don't do extra work for no money to suit the managers.
i just can't wrap my head round the mentality of someone who drags their arse out of bed at 4am to go into work and do 2 hours manual labour UNPAID. AND while they're cutting and tipping mailsort a full time man is taken off the IPS to prep their road for half an hour or so every morning! it's mental.

why not do both ? . . . . . . if we went out just one day a fortnight then backed this up by "doing the job by the book" the rest of the time, we would create huge backlogs in no time at all and lose the minimum amount of money whilst keeping the maximum supportthe beautiful bd south wrote:My believe is that an overtime ban/work to rule would be more successful than striking this would have and impact everyday as we all know the business is run on overtime and the mail would soon mount up....
