We should all of course remember that it’s all too easy to think that accidents, and particularly serious ones, only happen to other people. Most cycle accidents (about 80 per cent) involve a motor vehicle. Across the country, around 17,000 cyclists are injured every year, of those over 100 are killed and over 2,500 are seriously injured. Around 40 per cent of injuries are to the head or brain. Most accidents occur in daylight but accidents after dark are more likely to be fatal.

Among the serious cases, some will be left needing care for the rest of their lives. The costs of that care are very high and can run into millions of pounds. The chances of gaining the compensation needed to cover those costs are markedly reduced when the rider is shown to have contributed in some way to the causes of the accident.
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."
