Compulsory redundancy at Royal Mail

RM don't make MC workers redundant they just offer them jobs at the new MC 30+
miles away.

And that's precisely how they can maintain this pretence of not manking anyone compulserarily redundant! They make it so difficult for them, that they either take VR, or quit (RM's preferred option, as it's cheaper).

All these extra managers do is stand around and pick on postmen, it's become a competition as to who can nab a postie for the smallest of misdemanors, it's a joke and when there is any real work or decision making to do they all run off and sit in the office and laugh at each others cr@p jokes.
I'm really looking forward to this day of reckoning. There's way too many managers in Royal mail.

I doubt very much whether this is true and, if it is, you may wonder why the company doesn't a) offer the person concerned voluntary redundancy or b) use the person to fill one of the many vacancies which appear to exist in this department.

There are no vacancies and managers will not take VR because they know damn well they could never get a job as cushy and well paid as at the post office.
Most managers have no skills at all. It's the old Royal mail saying, managers become managers because they can't hack being a postman.

that's a bit unfair - some were good PHG's , with the odd few exceptions , most wouldn't get past Foreman / Supervisor outside .....a very poor culture

usual problems ....nepotism , the mail dumpers , drunks , lazy , the bolshy ex reps that went down the Road to Damascus etc , etc as we all know

RM has the same problems as anywhere else ....The Peter Principle is the biggest ....only taken to literal extremes .

Regardless of their reasons for refusing to take VR. There's no justification for allowing them to be paid for doing nothing. Why aren't they given other Duties (Deliveries, Driver, FLT/Scud Operator, etc.). Are they supposed to be above earning their living?

I'm not suggesting that they have their wages reduced. But working as an OPG on their wages, is better than doing sweet FA for that money, don't you think?
