What is the obsession with slagging off a product that helps us keep our jobs.(Please ignore the current situation with them ie the payments ect for the mo)

How many of you on here would take the piss out of bus drivers that moaned that they had a lot of passengers during the school run.
Would they suggest the kids take an alternative mode of transport so then they will need then less buses which means less drivers............you get my drift.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

It appears according to Roy we will ruin forests and the enviroment, even though the plan is simply to take DTD away from TNT and magazines/local papers and not increase the overall amount of leaflets in circulation. Tougher enviromental standards are needed and to be mandatory.

What we have here is the process of DTD going from the booking stage to the RDC stage, quite a lot of work as you can see, so understandably some companies like to outsource this work. So who is available to take on this work for the customer wishing to send leaflets through RML :hmmmm Its TNT as well as RML!!! and this is what TNT have to say on their website

If you want access to every postcode sector in the UK, TNT Post's own dedicated Royal Mail department can your door plan and book drop to be distributed alongside post delivered by the Royal Mail.

So as you can see we are not delivering TNT's DTD as customers approach TNT to assist them with planning and booking a leaflet drop to be done by RML. TNT have their own network of distributors but plenty of customers are using RML even though they are using TNT at the pre drop off at the RDC stage. There is no difference in price in terms of what RM charge as they are simply dealing with he customers agent which happens to be TNT.

Royal Mail offer the following similar service to rival TNT

Print Assist --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you need a company to help you in getting your leaflets from a design in your head to a physical leaflet delivered through the letterbox of your potential customers?
Do you want your distribution to be fully managed so that they do the print, paperwork and distribution?
Do you want your leaflets to be produced on sustainable paper?
Print Assist offers an end-to-end print solution that’s specifically designed to dovetail with Royal Mail’s Door to Door service. Particularly if you are unfamiliar with such processes, Print Assist can save you hassle and help avoid potentially expensive pitfalls.

Please read our brochure to see what our Customers have told us

My question is why do some customers prefer the TNT service to the RML Print assist? What are the total number of companies using the TNT and RML pre RDC drop off, which servixce is the leader TNT or RML print assist?

The Door to Door process

Step 1 - Make your booking
Making your booking is easy and can be done up to two years in advance so that you can make it an integral part of your marketing plan. However, it’s always best to book as early as possible to ensure you get the areas you want. We can help you select your most profitable areas using our free geo-demographic targeting service which will help your campaign reach your ideal customers. Don’t forget to download and read our list of conditions before making your booking so that you’re fully familiar with our specifications.

Step 2 – Create your sample and send to us
Once you have a mock up of your campaign material designed and printed please send a copy to us for review at least 30 days before your campaign is booked in to be delivered. Our Print Assist product can print and deliver your leaflets into our distribution centres making the process easier for you to manage. You need to ensure leaflets follow our size guide of:

Minimum size 70 x 100mm Maximum size 297 x 210mm (A4) Maximum thickness 17mm Maximum weight 100g (only one 80-100g item can be accepted for each postcode sector per week). You can fold larger items as long as they’re posted within these sizes. You can exceed the maximum size for an extra charge, however each item can be no thicker than 17mm once folded.

Step 3 – Package your material into boxes, bundles or pallets
Bundle your items in equal quantities of 500 items or less per bundle, ensuring they’re secure and do not exceed 6.4kg. Place the bundles into boxes, ensuring that all items in the box are of the same weight and that the box does not exceed 10kg in weight. If required, these boxes should be placed onto pallets which should:

Not exceed 1.0m x 1.2m x 1.3m high, weigh no more than 1,000kg loaded (including the pallet) and conform to European Health and Safety standards. Ensure all items in bundles, boxes or pallets are for the same delivery period, and that items on pallets are securely contained and shrink wrapped. If items from different contracts are on pallets use vertical dividers to clearly separate them and clearly identify which items belong to which contract.

Step 4 – Label your bundles, boxes and pallets

Please label your bundles, boxes and pallets with the following information:

"Royal Mail Door to Door" Your business name (and/or client name if you are an agency) Royal Mail Address (where the items will be handed over) Delivery date of distribution (this is the start date of delivery to households, rather than the date that you gave your items to Royal Mail for distribution) Distribution number (See our FAQs) Leaflet design number Number of items per bundle, and the number of boxes. Please use the label design provided , which is attached to your Door to Door contract. For an example of the label, please refer to our User guide

Step 5 – Deliver you items to your nearest distribution centre
You will need to deliver your items to one or more Royal Mail Door to Door Distribution centres (walk bundling centre) between seven and eighteen days before your distribution date.

You can pre-book your handover by phoning 01865 796981 – this enables you to choose the best time to do this. When we give you your contract, we will also give you a ‘proof of delivery’ sheet which you will need to bring with you each time you hand over your items to a walk bundling centre, so that one of our team can sign it as proof that you delivered the items to us.

Yeah stick a broom up our arses and we could sweep the streets as we go too! Charge the proper rate for DSA and we could become a first class mail company providing a first class service at sensible wages not another cheap and nasty leaflet deliverer.

We would charge a proper rate by when the CWU had a hissy fit against the PSB New Liebour dropped the good bits as wellas the bad bit :d'oh!

CWU wanted a regulator and a review, look what happened with them neither turned out in line with CWU aspirations.

A little more care when we next wish for something wouldnt go amiss.

I beg to differ,

If i want to send leaflets out I have a lot of work to do before I drop them off at a RDC, now lets say it all too much hassle for me to all that planning and booking and dropping off at the RDC. So I decide to pay another company to do it for me.

Lets look at my choices shall we, TNT says

If you want access to every postcode sector in the UK, TNT Post's own dedicated Royal Mail department can plan and book your door drop to be distributed alongside post delivered by the Royal Mail.
The service can be totally integrated with other TNT Post distribution methods to provide seamless national activity with no duplication.

Widely used by the financial, charity and other direct response sectors. The service provides a non-competitive environment, with up to 3 other non competing items.

Why Royal Mail...
Covers up to 26 million households
Positive environment with the post
Distributed over a week
TNT Post expertise and account management

All looks very good to me, and I can choose to have TNT send my leaflets out to RML but is there anybody else I can use?

Yes there is its Royal Mail print assist :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause

This service basically does what TNT do above.

Now what other options do i have other than delivery through Royal Mail?

Aah I see TNT offers a range of distribution services including their own network

Own Network
Often referred to as Solus in the industry, TNT Post's Own Network is a unique national field force of 8,000 distributors, co-ordinated by our HQ Operations though 77 regional field and area managers.

Through close management and regular checks, Own Network consistently scores the highest levels of 'on target, on time' delivery efficiency in the door drop industry while providing flexibility as well as quality.

This Network provides two standard services:

Own Network Premium

Own Network Shared

Own Network Premium
This method provides complete flexibility in terms of area of distribution, timings and size of item - removing the restrictions imposed by Royal Mail and Newshare. Distributed with up to 3 other non competing items this Premium service can act as a stand alone method or as an in-fill to areas unavailable through Royal Mail or the local free newspapers.

Why Premium...
Impact - through the letterbox and on the doormat with no clutter
Non-competitive environment
Flexible
Great national coverage - delivering to nearly 20 million householdsHiT - precise targeting at postcode sector level or at round level

Now forgive my ignorance here but all the evidence shows customers choosing to have TNT process their leaflets but wanting RM to deliver and those that choose TNT to the delivery can access nearly 20 million households.

So when you say they haven't the infrastructure to deliver it themselves you are my friend very much mistaken :d'oh!

And this is one of the other points about D2D - if RM allow them to build up a big enough share of the market, TNT will use it to subsidise delivery of letters as well.
Imagine how empty your DO will look without all that TNT DSA coming through it.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Yes, buses might be a more popular and civilised means of transport if wretched school children were barred from them.
At best they pay half fare for a full seat plus a seat opposite for their feet whenever possible, at worst they fare dodge.
Then they shout and swear at older passengers, throw things at each other, decorate the whole bus interior with graffiti and used chewing gum, fight and leave behind whatever litter they've accumulated since their previous journey.
It was never like that when I were a lad.
And then some people wonder why Thatcher said that any thirty year old man using a bus was a failure.
Buses, like pubs, should be for responsible adults only.

never seen a tnt delivery man delivering d2d's certainly not in my area yes they have 'trialed' it in some large city's but put it to the test lets ask how many ares do get a tnt d2d delivered by tnt no need to disclose you whereabouts just lets say n,s,e,w,

and daz for you information i have indeed asked the question (quite high up the food chain') about tnt's d2d's and i did eventually get the answer that it was a contract as they don't have staff to deliver them hence 'the partnership'
