I've backed it - it's time it backed me and stood strong.

They are doing that, but the more people talk about strolling in, and quitting the union etc, the more they are undermining ANY effort that the CWU are making, pretty much doing RM's job for them. At the end of the last strike a manager smugly informed me that the Union won't go on strike again, because the members aren't up to it, they'd broken it apparantly. Don't prove him right.

They haven't broken the union, it managed to do that without any help whatsoever. Wilbur it isn't just the capitulation of strike action on two occasions, but the reluctance of the union to recognise the bullying, harrassment and executive action imposed over the last 18 months - without which there would not have been such support for IA this time. There was much more to be won here, the exec knew that, it could not only have broken Royal Mail but drawn the government in to address the pensions issue once and for all. The leadership is a political puppet for who the needs of the membership are secondary.

Activity has dried up a bit on this forum but its only a temporary thing.
we are all (the 75,000) holding our breath although i cant really claim to speak for everybody!.

I think we were all a little take aback by the CWU PEC agreement last week, just a we were about to launch our biggest attack yet we have been told to hold fire. If the CWU PEC have got this wrong there is definitely only one way we can negotiate this dispute - & lets remember 'This Is Still A Dispute' its not over by a long way if anyone out there thinks that - man the trenches 'BE PREPARED'.

The membership are the milk cow that provides the finances for these bods to enjoy the lifestyle they do - although the union is not specific to Royal Mail workers we are by far their biggest contributor. They do believe that whatever we have to agree to in terms of pay and conditions it is secondary to the survival of the CWU and its infrastructure of branch, area, division et al. What we need is a grass roots upsurge to topple these bods from their ivory tower, including the PEC and get them back to the shop floor where our real world is.

How would this grassroots surge happen and what part are you going to play in it, I presume you would play a part or are you retired from direct action and just a arm chair critic now?

As a paying member of the CWU I am entitled to criticise if I feel the job I am paying for is not being done properly - If a bricklayer builds a wall for me and I am not satisfied - do I take a course on bricklaying? I would have thought there are enough people within branch,area,division who are suitably ambitious enough to actually organise a vote to bring a resurgence of true representation to the union - or unlike the workplace, is it a closed shop? Perhaps these posts are filled with too many psychophants looking after their own positions.

If we stood together maybe RM will make the changes weve waited so long for. The desicion to call off the strikes was conducted with disorder, they should have waited until the disruption began with the xmas mail before calling them off. Now everybody is just laughing at us and how we strike, thinking we dont get anything done and our strikes are meaningless and without threat of disruption because our union is in league with what labour say.

Bloody right! FW. Did you see our banner on the back of voice last month? bit hard to see but IU560 were represented at the Brighton demo.

No, I missed it! We had one at the Liverpool Trades Council march to the TUC conference and a couple on our picket line though.
