A RESPONSE TO ROYAL MAIL PROPAGANDA

1. Royal Mail say strikes will not strengthen our hand.

Clearly that is not true. For months and months now RM have been breaking agreements and bullying people. Once the strikes started, they started talking !

2. Royal Mail say no one knows what the dispute is about

Neither do they , obviously ! What have they been doing in talks with the Union then, asking them at every meeting what’s it all about !

The issues are the same – bullying culture , unfair work rates , job security guarantees , pay freeze , shorter working week , protecting FT jobs and helping PT staff to be able to have FT jobs to progress to, Phase 4 of the Pay & Modernisation agreement and the continual abuse of the 2007 flexibility provisions

3. Royal Mail say we have gone on strike despite productive talks taking place

Yes, we have. And why ? Because there cannot be many CWU members who know that if we do not push our advantage now, the leaked documents from Royal Mail clearly show they would like to ensure strikes stopped until after Christmas, when of course they would start dragging their heels and going back to the same old attitudes of moving the goal posts. WOULD YOU TRUST ROYAL MAIL IF YOU HAD TO ATTEND THE NEGOTIATIONS ?

When the CWU have a deal , then we can safely stand down the strikes

4 Royal Mail say they have stopped making unagreed changes

So, RM accept they were making unagreed change then !! The truth now is that they are planning a whole new set of cuts from January 2010. If you do not support the CWU now, then more changes will take place without any CWU influence.

CWU influence in the workplace is the key to protecting you and the key to ensuring your voice is heard. Does anyone seriously believe that RM would listen to you if there was no Union ?

No one should be in any doubt that unagreed change will re-commence in 2010 and beyond if they think that they can get away with it. And why wouldn’t they do this – there are all in line for a massive bonus whilst you get nothing at all !

5. Why the lack of information ?

This is specifically to ensure confidentiality so there are no leaks and no spin from Royal Mail. The TUC demanded the talks take place behind closed doors. When we have news, you will get it !

I've made a point during recent months of returning (unopened, naturally) any form of propaganda from RM under standard returns procedure including the Courier. Perhaps it's about time that there was such a mass concensus to return all of their mailings amongst all staff in view of it being inevitably a hollow propaganda tool? Inevitably we are read out these tired scripts at WTL sessions anyway. The Courier presents an about-as truthful version of RM operations as you'd expect in Pre-Glasnost Pravda or any Murdoch rag; the letters pages responses are particularly laughable for their side-stepping of pertinent questions. Although I may change my stance if ever there's a forecast national toilet paper shortage... :cfo

the irony of it, it should have been "Your Future Our Choice" also on the brief did u notice its said 25% have been working as sca.... i mean strike-breakers, something of interest, we have heard all the top duchbags at royal mail quoting that 60% of RM staff did not vote for IA, well how come only 25% have been strike breaking? who's been fiddling the figures again?? i put this to my dom, & of course he had no answer.
