About 3 years ago I did my own study regarding the amount of walking we did using a simple step counter during working hours, did this over 2 working weeks or 10 days.

Government recommends 10,000 steps per day which equates to 100,000 over 10 days.

I did OVER 156,000 & that did not include what I did after work.

This was before our walks had been made longer.

Factor in what is known as TUT (time under tension, when sports coaches work out the total volume an athlete lifts during any set training session) of the weight we carry & how this transfers from foot to foot as we walk (for runners it works out at 2.5 times bodyweight from foot to foot to maintain constant speed) with said weight on shoulder & the total volume we carry per shift is astronomical.

This is why so many suffer with so many ailments because of the sheer workload we put our bodies through daily, compressed spines, lordosis, scoliosis, ankle, knee & hip compression.

My advice is get a pedometer & log each days total steps/miles covered whilst at work & keep a check of total volume of mail carried/pushed each day.........and do this EVERYDAY....

Then a few years down the line you`ll have a detailed account of what you have done & claims can be put forward for repetitive strain injuries....

Other wise these baskets will just use, abuse then dump us on the scrapheap when we can no longer do the job because of ill health.

  I get even on quiet days somewhere between 28,000 and 33,000

anyway reading through the article I get the feeling that this was a pre-conceived study in which the results are known before any investigation takes place. :Very Happy

Is this why they insist on making people wear boots which are unsuitable in wet weather and cause foot problems?

To be honest I do believe that they think that our health and wellbeing is 'extremely important'. Just not nearly as important as bottom line profits or meeting unrealistic savings targets.
