All joking aside i would love to think that the hard working people of the UK and all nations realised that the power to control our own destiny lies in our own hands because we have the power to affect real change that we all need instead of changing one set of shackles for another as in our elections of our so called leaders ( That should read SERVANTS TO ME!) that have consistently promised ALL and without exception failed to deliver for the benefit for the people that make the wealth and i include ALL Right Centre and left wing Governments that pay homage to a set of bankers that ultimately decide who lives dies and the laws that control the way we are forced to live but i fear we are decades from that time yet and until then we will all dance around the pole giving a bit and taking a bit in cycles as the elite see fit. Still i live in hope.
Actually it wasn't a joke, Castro really did do that and America paid the price.
in Miami for certain  :d'oh!

I remember the 70s well, I returned to civilian life in 73 - just in time for the strikes, short week working, power cuts and unprecedented union power. Many of the crippling strikes were, in my opinion, unjustified and was merely a flexing of union muscle. Small wildcat strikes, before wildcats became illegal, would happen at the drop of a hat and to someone who had been in a disciplined environment was an anathema. However I joined every strike and voted with the "party" line throughout those years.

Over the last 30 years there has been a class war against "unionism", which is a great pity, because being a member of a union is not about striking it is about solidarity for a common cause, which may involve striking, but it is a group of individuals large or small united for a single purpose to improve their working conditions, pay or safety standards and in recent years those causes have been more than necessary with the advent of privatisation. They say it takes two to tango and in the case of strike action in the modern era the tune is definitely being called by the employer. I would not want to see a return to the crazy union days but striking is our only way to make a point when there is no dialogue between the parties.

Perhaps if we do return to 1970's strikes, we could get some real change. On the plus side RM would be fine, their management is stuck in the 1970's, they'd be sooo goooood!
