Sky 974 BBC1 London will have something about the strike on in a minute.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

why - please expand as I don't think 1 strike will make RM collapse. However if RM stuck to the whole agreement and not just the bits they wanted we would not be facing this.
Both Royal Mail and CWU are jointly committed to working together to deliver that change by agreement, continuing to protect jobs (in line with our commitments in MTSF) and provide high quality terms and conditions for all employees. Both parties recognise that a fresh start is needed and are committed to moving away from the adversarial relationships that persist in too many parts of the business.
To create a more flexible working environment where the aspirations of employees and the company can be more easily met.

To improve the local relationship between Royal Mail and CWU.

To actively encourage the participation of employees in supporting change.
sensible implementation of these taking into account local circumstances
Dont think RM are really following these excerpts from the Pay and Mod agreement are they. :whistle :hmmmm

The policy of the CWU is to encourage more ballots and more action. That is what is happening currently there are over and 125 ballots outside of the 138 London Ballots.

Due to the differculty with coping with the employment laws it is far easier to ballot workplaces then having a national ballot. Royal Mail have hired a strike busting legal firm based in the states to challenge the union legally as much as possible.

So we have to adapt thats why the number of workplace ballots is increasing.

Plus there is no hiding place for reps or members in a work place ballot as it is down to your office vote. But that also helps motivate reps and branch`s to hold meetings as if any office gets a no vote then you might as well put a white flag up on top of the biulding as Royal Mail will see that office as having no backbone and will attack those offices first.

I know whole chunks of Essex have now requested ballots and some of those offices who had orginally request just overtime bans are now asking to be balloted for strike action. Plus parts of Scotland are taking strike action.

Jennifer we are striking to achieve a future. Royal Mail want to run down this industry including cutting jobs , conditions and services in order to privitise it.

Our members are the people who face the cuts and Adam and his cronies can then go and wreck another industry as they are serial wreckers of compaines so the directors can get richers on the backs of destroying the real workers jobs.

Remember we have offered a 3 month peace period providing we resolve the offices they have taken executive action in and providing they commit to a national agreement which provides Postal Workers with a worthwhile future in a company which has made a profit of 321 million in the worst recession in living memory.

The reason they have refused our offer is that they intend to destroy our futures and Royal Mail. Well in London and in an increasing number of other places we not going to let them and we are going to fight them.

Reason: I am sure you meant to say destroying the real workers jobs - not the real wreckers jobs

We are only putting in place changes which are already agreed with the CWU as part of the 2007 deal.
Hopefully people with think about what they are voting for before the final ballot to return to work this time, everyone who voted 'yes' to return to work last time should be ashamed of themselves :no no
i voted yes to pay and mod and are not ashamed of it :cool Think back to what managements original 23 strings included and then compare it to the deal we voted on(most branches recommended it)and we did not come out of it to bad,it could and would have been a lot worse if it wasnt for our strike action and unity, hopefully more of the same again :Very Happy

OK fair comment, perhaps there should've been more definition of the words 'flexibilty & modernistion' because RM are taking the words to the extremes.

What does my head in is that Royal Mail, despite the P&M 2007 and the recommendations over industrial relations of the Hooper report, still REFUSE to participate in meaningful negotiations with the CWU.

Why are RM always so provocative and confrontational when all they need to do is engage the union.

How so ?

In reply to the others,

I am all for joining Londoners in their strikes, but to stay on the right side of the Law by having a legal ballot otherwise you will be dismmissing yourselves from the job.

I've just been told by a manager that 15 posties are being drafted in from midlands to break strike in our office(there are 33 duties in our office). Of course it might not be true but this kind of thing really makes you lose faith in human nature........If you reading this anyone from the midlands, can you see if it's true? thanks and regards.

I find it hard believe that fellow posties would volunteer to break the strike, if they are they are a bloody disgrace
