Even if funding was stopped it'd make no odds. watch the cut backs fly now. Over half of mail centres (around 35) to close.

If I understand correctly, Hooper has stated that change has been needed for a while and that whatever has happened has been too little and too slow

so surely there should be a wholesale change of the senior management (although most have jumped ship) but it should be bye bye :cfo + :lfo now.

Pat McFadden, Post Office Minister continues to say that Royal Mail "will be publicly-owned in line with our Manifesto commitment" how does this square with bringing in TNT on a minority stake basis??

Half the MCs will not close, all the older MCs will close to be replaced with shiney, new mega ones.

Dennis skinner hit the nail on the head privatisation is a failed system just as sure as capitalism has!. The bank's of the world are bankrupt and not just morally who can raise the money even T.N.T will not get funding from the bank's to turn around royal mail and it's workforce!.

I think things are becoming a little clearer now:

Royal Mail as a whole - GovCo, may enter into a JV with ANOTHER postal operator, i.e. there would be no transfer of assets to a private company.

????

ps well done Dennis Skinner, even Peter Hain is against this idea. Inteteresting times ahead.

Privatisation only benefits a select few - those at the top - the money men. Full or part privatisation will inevitably lead to lower wages, longer hours ( although RM have made sure that there is really no more room for manouvre on this point), a stripped down workforce etc etc. We all knew that privatisation was on it's way but the top brass need a reason to present to staff and the public so as to present privatisation as the solution. Given the £7 Billion pension deficit, RM is bankrupt. There is your reason.

If RM is part privatised and TNT were to take over the MC's - would they get control and owner ship of the properties that the MC's are in? Some of those properties are in prime locations. Even if shut down for mail purposes, those big warehouses could attract some decent money as leased industrial space ( or prison holding units when the riots kick off).

The properties along high streets around the country are also prime properties in prime locations.

Strange how Mandleson pops up again - is RM about to be taken over by a mate of a certain N Rothchild?

Whatever - it is obvious that RM is being set up for a fall - but who stands to gain from it?
