Why do they have a lot to answer for? Do they not have the right to strike? Even when there pay rise is below inflation?

For someone who is always telling people off for not backing up their arguments with facts. You're not showing yourself in a good light, are you?

What exactly do you base your accusation that we don't think much, if at all?
And what exactly do the Teachers have to answer for?
Do you even know what Schools are like these days anyway?

Would you, be willing to deal with disruptive, and sometimes violent Students, for what they earn?
No, of course not!

Yes, they get far more leave than we (or indeed most Jobs) do. But they are often on courses during the School Holidays, and have to deal with a great deal more stress than most people. How would you cope, if you were confronted by a violent Teenager. Especially knowing, that if the situation becomes violent, you will be in far more trouble than your attacker!

Then there is the lack of facilities. Old, worn out Textbooks, outdated Computers for the Children to use, etc., etc., etc.. They became Teachers to provide a good Education for the Children. That's hard to do properly with crap rescources.

It's all very well, people moaning about last minute Childcare issues on Strike Days, and a few lost days of School. But what we should be doing, is trying to sort the situation out. By supporting the underappreciated Teachers, who do an excellent job, despite all the obstacles in their way.

Remember: This is the first Teachers Strike in 21 years! How can you possibly take that attitude towards them, when they have shown such restraint for the past couple of Decades?
There have been so many occasions when they would have been completely justified in taking Industrial Action during that time. Yet they put the Children first! But everyone has their limits. They have finally been pushed too far, and need, and deserve our support!

IM SORRY ANDY ,YOU MUST HAVE MISSED MY POST WHERE I SAID THAT I WORKED IN MY LAST JOB IN CHILD CARE HOMES AND SCHOOLS .THESE "CHILDREN" WERE THE WORST OF THE WORST. SO YES I THINK I KNOW WHAT SOME TEACHERS HAVE TO PUT UP WITH.ALSO A COUPLE OF FRIENDS WHO EARN OBSCENLY MORE MONEY THAT YOU OR I AND TEACH PRIMARY SCHOOL AND LIFE IS A FRICKIN PICNIC.

YES THERE ARE SINK SCHOOL AND YES THERE ARE VERY GOOD SCHOOL(AROUND ME)

BUT TEACHER GET EXTRA TO WORK AT THE SINK SCHOOLS THEY GET MONEY TO BUY HOUSES IN SOME AREAS.AND JUST LIKE PROPER UNION FOLLOWERS THEY DO NOTHING FOR FREE NO MATTER WHAT HARD LUCK STORY THEY SAY.

CLEARLY IF CHILDREN ARE LEAVING SCHOOL WITHOUT THE VERY BASIC CAPABILITY OF READING AND WRITING THEN THE ANSWER HAS TO BE YES THERE OVER PAID

Childcare, is not the same as being a School Teacher. There are different demands made of you. It's one thing keeping Children under control, and quite another, to educate them while doing so.

You are also right, that there are some very good Schools around. So, yes, there are some Teachers who have it much easier than others. However: they all get the same Wages, regardless of wether they are in a good School, or a bad one.

You say that there are good Schools in your area, yet you say that many Children leave School without knowing the 3 R's. Although, whoever first coined that phrase, really needs to learn to spell!!!!!

Now please bear in mind, that this next comment is aimed at the quality of the Education provisions in your area. It isn't meant to be personal. But if the Schools are so good in your area, why is it that I can spell so much better than you (without a Spell Checker), despite having Dyspraxia?

Now there are several excellent Schools in my area. But there are also 2, which have over the past few years, had some fairly serious problems with disruptive and violent Students.

The problem, is that the best Schools, tend to get the best Children, and the rest get left with the ones that either can't get into a good School because it's oversubscribed. Or because they aren't of the required calibre. It has very little to do with geographical location.

As for my comment about old outdated equipment. I was referring to Secondary Schools. They need much more expensive, and comprehensive equipment. And unfortunately, they don't always get the funding that they require. I am, actually speaking from experience.

Luckily, there are a lot of Parents like me: who are willing to donate, whatever we can, in order to help out. I am by no means, unusual in doing so.
