The outdated union and its blinkered workforce need to wake up and smell the coffee. Otherwise, they will soon follow the fate of miners'. :wave

oh don't i firmly hold the management accountable as well don't worry! but if you're talking about striking to improve pay and conditions at the same time as the business is shrinking, that doesn't make sense and will not yield a long-term sustainable outcome.
Again you’ve been reading RM statements.
Trying to keep T&Cs not improve them.

They haven't actually cleared backlog from previous strike or cyber attack. RM is a failing business, with a market share in freefall and the staff with zero focus on customers and the staff want a massive payrise. The staff and union need to wake up, you think Evri/Hermes etc have conditions as good as this?

No backlog left from the strikes, not seen any from the cyber attack, unless that's being held somewhere
That's not borne out by the tracking information; item's posted on the 5th and 6th December that literally only received scans on the 20th and 21st January, mostly at PSC Milton Keynes.

God knows where the mail has been held, but it's definitely been hidden somewhere; this isn't individual items or one offs, it's hundreds of individual tracking numbers from businesses, online postage, post offices.

Seems most of the international mail posted before Christmas was held somewhere and rolled right into the Cyber incident.

If the business is shrinking then how on earth did it make a group profit of £758 million pounds last year - £416 million of this coming from Royal Mail?? :hmmmm

If you look back at Royal Mail's accounts, they make profits every year. They just use some creative accounting to spend it on things like super-hubs in Warrington which cost them £1 billion so they don't actually post too much overall profit. Royal Mail actually has a very healthy balance sheet with £1.7 billion in available liquidity.

Why not spend some of that on their hard working staff?

That is why we are striking. The company has plenty of capital. Enough to recall managers that the company had originally paid off and offer them £40k for 9 months work for revisions and make our duty spans even bigger. Because even though mail traffic has declined as a whole, we are delivering more mail individually due to bigger walks and lapsed duties. And parcel traffic has just exploded.

Its actually a similar same story at the NHS. A nurse that I know said that she isn't necessarily striking for pay but because they are doing more and more work and still getting pretty much the same money.

Now that doesn't make sense and does not yield a long term sustainable outcome either.....

I agree.
The cash is there but the priority is not to spend it on the workforce.
The priority is to spend the cash on attacking the workforce or so it seems.

RM were not attacking T and C's until The union broke their agreement and balloted for a no strings payrise?

RM staff need to understand that they aren't protected in a public sector monopoly anymore, people can use other couriers and RM need to compete for their market share. Its makes zero business sense to improve pay and conditions when the overall business is shrinking. As a shareholder Evri etc. have a far superior business model despite being at a massive disadvantage to RM in terms of brand loyalty, access to planes, rail etc. and links to post office.
Did it make sense to chuck so many hundreds of millions away to shareholders?

How can you compare Evri's business model with RM's? Evri dont deliver letters?

Wrong. Royal Mail were offering us 5.5% in return for un-agreed changes in terms and conditions. This offer also included the insulting 2% pay rise that Royal Mail gave us (when inflation was about 12%) after the CWU previously held a ballot on pay.

No having a dig at posties/front line staff. Point of concern is that purpose of RM is to deliver things. And they are not doign that very well at the moment. From an objectives perspective you have to say that the fact strikes are being talked about rather than fixing the sevice, is a concern and perhaps relfective that the company has lost its way. If the busienss really cared about their service, they would be running their 'alternative' systems 24:7 to clear the backlog

Factually incorrect.

No, they were attacking terms and conditions when they imposed a 2.5% pay rise without agreements from the CWU.

As previous agreements form part of our T&Cs if Royal Mail arbitrarily ignore an agreement and imposes a pay rise then they are attacking our T&Cs

15 Jun was when RM moved to impose the pay deal viewtopic.php?f=87&t=105317&hilit=imposed

21 Jun was when the CWU gave notice of a ballot for Industrial action. viewtopic.php?f=87&t=105480

Its cause and effect not effect and cause.
