Royal Mail: plans to scrap Saturday deliveries in huge shake-up as bosses claim firm is losing 1m a day

I honestly dont see that letters have dropped much if at all, granted 'live' mail has but from what I was delivering 30 years ago over the same ground,not delivery duty, letters have barely changed. With RM its semantics again, "letters are down" when they really mean ' live' stuff. When I say 'live's I mean stuff with stamps

Stamped letters are way down, enough to potentially trigger the removal of CFCs from MCs and potentially swapping out IMPs for iLSMs

Hopefully at least IMPs will remain, always been a fan of these. Also have heard from my CTMU that a new form of oBLAd’s could potentially be brought in dependant on any old FOKUs being removed.

Yes less letters but it depends on the area, as most of the areas I deliver to are affluent areas and still get a lot of letters especially when we regularly have 2 days worth! 10 years ago there were more letters but a lot less parcels and we now have lapsing on frames which is another 80 odd calls plus we are lapsing another walk which takes 30 minutes a day, this means we hardly ever get done in our time but basically they are saying we are not working hard enough. It’s getting ridiculous and. Sickness is very high now and it’s mainly injuries caused by too much walking every day

Doesn't seem to matter how affluent an area is, everywhere has seen a drop in letters, especially firms walks. A couple of years ago you could expect a firms walk on a wave 2 on a CSS to have 1 1/2 to 2 boxes worth, now 3/4 of a box is probably the most they get

So is the plan to set up these parcel hubs delivering the bigger tracked and lats Monday to Sunday and have letters Monday to Friday from the other offices plus the remaining tracked on a Saturday?
I saw a bulletin from the London cwu urging people to vote yes and one of the point they said was they was planning on making Sundays compulsory for offices that do Sunday work, so will that just be the parcel hubs that will be working on Sundays?

This just shows the arrogance of those at the top constantly announcing this when it's the regulator that decides and if they are stupid enough to not see that this is purely about profit and certainly not in the customers best interest then I really do give up!

Even if you factor in new builds, the amount of letters is dropping, batch sizes on the sequencing have been dropping off. At one time for wave 1 if you exclude any bulk postings) you'd get a good few with 5,000+ items, these days you're lucky if you get 4,000+

Don't forget that removing Saturday letter deliveries will give one day less per week to deliver D2D items, which are still workload to be hauled around the streets. Not too bad when you only have a couple of items, not so good when you have 5 or 6 contracts.......assuming that the delivery goes out everyday, that is. Not a given for the last 3 years in many offices. We have numerous HCT deliveries of 850+ delivery points (and one over 1000) in the terraced streets surrounding our DO. 6000 items in 6 days is difficult enough with 6 contracts, let alone doing them in 5 days (or less). Roll them over to the following week our bosses say......and then 4 contracts turn up the following week.

All these numbers /statistics are great, but honestly when your delivering the the stuff you know the difference, and as much as anyone says otherwise, nah

It'll be which offices presently deliver parcels on a Sunday, perhaps in time it'll just the parcel hubs but I can;t see them coping any time soon,
