The irony is that RM is being run like something out of North Vietnam / Korea hence the IR / " Trust issues " problems .

I think you're missing the point here. The laws that cover industrial action make it much harder to conduct wildstrike action and companies can and do sack employees for it. Thats usually why any trade union is quick to try and diffuse it.
Don't believe everything you're told in the rest room

No ,thats exactly the point, they ignored the law ,they got sacked, they stayed united and their protest mushroomed with further illegal strikes at 30 other sites including across Europe in an act of defiant solidarity .
Their revolt was solid and growing to such an extent that the GMB leadership was forced to promise a national ballot to strike against the anti-union laws. Hey presto next day total capitulation by Total . I wonder who did not want that fight to go public :hmmmm
The wildcat was about Total breaking national agreements by the way

andy2007 wrote: The call to do the job properly, was IMHO intended to make us all a great deal safer. And to show just how many unpaid hours are done every day. If everyone worked every hour they were paid for, claimed every hour they did as overtime, and did no extra hours over and above that. We wouldn't need to loose anybody from a DO.

How did I come to such a sweeping generalisation?
As far as I'm aware, there are still people at every DO, who come in early. So let's say for the sake of argument, that on average, you have 8 people coming in 1 hour early. That equals a Full Time Duty! Even if that's over optimistic of me, and it's only 4 people doing an average of 1 hour for free. It's still a 20 Hour Contract. :hmmmm

But what if in a D.O they only touch their walksorted mail when they come in early, which means work is there to sustain a start earlier than 6am. What if even though people come in early they are going home early as well. In my D.O you can have people comeing in on time as much as you like, it wont need any extra jobs. CWU mbrs in my D.O start early so as to finish early not to finish on time.

The IPS operation is at its lowest level of staffing at anypoint since late April 2004 yet we are finishing IPS earlier than back then.

That's a good point Big Daz. But how long do you think RM will allow people to go Home early?
They want us to work all the hours we're paid, and have an agreement to enforce it:
Phase 3 – Transforming the way we work
Both parties are committed to introducing new ways of working throughout the
business by April 2008. In order to achieve this there will be a trial in four offices
per AGM area covering the following:
- New arrangements to cover for one another and develop sensible
options to absorb absences, and increased workload, where time exists
within normal hours
- To ensure all paid work hours are utilised
- To creates a working environment where employees, CWU reps and
managers feel valued and motivated.

It doesn't matter, how many unpaid hours you work. They still want you to work all the hours you are paid to work. :hmmmm

it's just another outlook on Reality!

That is a question I often ask myself, Im prepared for when that day comes but I dont think the mbrs are, try and get them prepared and one is likely to find themeselves on the recieving end of some cross words from the mbrs. My office does seem to be behind many others but that is in part due to pegasus as my DOM wanted that in and settled first before we started the flexibilty stuff. We only started the covering absences stuff a few weeks ago.

The DOM could enforce no early starts and take your meal break to ensure peopel havent gone home by the time the mail arrives from the mail centre at 12pm ish, but that could cause more trouble than its worth by people getting back at different times and then the accusations of duties not being even and your taking the piss by not being back do do sorting etc etc comments will start.

My DOm is keen on replacing 40hr contracts with 30 hour contracts when vacanies occur and this works on the basis of prep and deliver only. This means a reduction in IPS bods which means gradually the IPS finishing early will start to dissaper and IPS will last for the full scheduled time. IPS finishing early is playing a big part in ensuring job and finish and on time finishing with all delivery work completed is happening day in day out. Early IPS finishing combined with a long day under longs and short makes for a very mangeable workload timewise.

Weve just had a 40 hour man be made to drop to 30 hours proably because new entrants have micky mouse contracts rather than proper contracts.
