You mean in my post? I'd look at the factory committees and soviets in the Russian Revolution, the workers councils and strike committees in Germany (then later Hungary '56, Poland '56, Paris '68, Portugal '74, Poland 1980, Albania '97 and many more), the CNT and collectives in Spain '36 - there's plenty of examples. None of them made it for various organisational and historical reasons so it's not a matter of trying to recreate them, but learning from both their successes and failures.

Well I don't want to be the Jeremiah here but 36 to 97 is 61 years and I would have thought that was long enough to learn - IF IT WAS WORKABLE - it isn't.

Yes, capitalism works so well. Leighton and Crozier certainly think so.

It's OK to be an idealist, you just shouldn't confuse it with real life. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard "Come the revolution Brother" during my lifetime. I can imagine over the decades back street pubs with a smokey side room half full of would be revolutionaries discussing the failure of the system. Leighton and Crozier aren't the only ones who have prospered from the system, we all have. As a nation we enjoy a quality of life the envy of many because of it.

So you think this system is the finest which could be devised then? Hospital closures, infant mortality, wars, unemployment, racism, the erosion of our working conditions, pay cuts, preventable disease, homelessness? Hang on! I'll just slip Elgar into the tray and get my union jack out.

I wouldn't like to say mate. I've only ever lived here, but I know that this place could be vastly improved on once people realised that the likes of Allan and Adam aren't the answer and stopped looking to the scum in Westminster to provide the answer.

Just read this thread from start to finish and just have to say that it's the most interesting thread i have ever read on a postie forum. All contributors having valid points to their arguments. My 2 pennys (for what its worth) is that far too many people in this country are blinkered as to what our government (and all the other parties if they got in) are willing to do for their own gain, most of it in the name of us the british public. Whatever system rises to the top ends up corrupted. Anyway rant over. Peace
