The 'TikTok postie' is heartbroken after gaining more than 800,000 followers

Laura Orgill went viral for her postie videos during the first lockdown and has gained more than 800,000 followers on TikTok.

Now the 27-year-old from Rhondda has announced that she will no longer be making videos in her Royal Mail uniform or about her work as a postie as Royal Mail does not want her to post about her job on the platform.


She said: "I am absolutely heartbroken that is how I started this journey, as TikTok postie."

This come's after Laura received negative national headlines earlier this year for a joke video she did about not giving people enough time to collect their parcels. Royal Mail refuses to fire its poster girl for TikTok video bragging about only waiting two SECONDS for people to answer the door before leaving

Since then Laura has continued to make regular videos on her account, however very little were about her work as a postwoman and she has now made a video explaining the situation.

Talking in the latest video, which has more than 370,000 views, she said: "So, unfortunately, moving forward Royal Mail have decided that they no longer want me to post in my uniform anymore or discuss anything to do with Royal Mail."

Royal Mail had previously been very supportive of Laura's content and even included her in a video for their official careers Facebook page.

When asked for comment today, Royal Mail said: “While we would not comment on any individual, Royal Mail operates a clear policy with regards to posting under the Royal Mail brand on social media.”

As Laura's success grew so did the number of complaints Royal Mail received about her. She explained: "Unfortunately the more I grew on here (TikTok) then I am going to have people who don't like me and it isn't fair on Royal Mail for people just to be ringing up, having hundreds of complaints about me day in, day out, over nothing."

She promised this would not be the end of her TikTok account and that she would still continue to make videos, ending the video with: "It might be the end of TikTok postie but it's a new chapter for the one and only Laura Orgill."

So she's not been banned from TikTok at all and the headline is nonsense.
She's just been reminded of the same rules we all have to follow.

She is being banned from TikTok...as a Postie! She in whatever other guise she chooses, can do what she likes...

True. But if it isn't anything to do with RM and it's not done in company time, then shouldn't she be allowed to do whatever she likes? Or a we going to go down the whole censoring route and limitation of free speech/activity? As long as it is within the guidelines of TikTok then where do RM stand on this?

Royal Mail have a social media policy.
It's on here somewhere.
She was allowed to breach it numerous times.
Now she has to follow the same rules as the rest of us.
She was lucky to keep her job.

I actually applaud her for her "joke" video exposing a problem that has probably persisted within Royal Mail for a long time. Not every customer complaint is legitimate from a rational point of view however I have known posties to just slip in a 739 card without bothering to knock or knocking once and then putting the card through without giving the customer reasonable time to get to the door. I partly blame bad management for not doing enough to reprimand those individuals.
If say the individual affected is yourself, then you can start to understand why those customers are upset with the service provided.
Although not ethical, from a business standpoint, it was probably the right call on Royal Mail's side. To be fair, Royal Mail should not have encouraged her to do so. Perhaps she may have done things differently. Just my opinion.

Whoever works for the business has to adhere to their social media policy and their business standards.

personal life. Sometimes you may want to talk about your work on social media. But, you have a
responsibility to ensure you don’t damage the company through your online activities.

For anyone to think that they can do what they want online, while others 'possibly' know where they work, and thinks it's 100% safe, is a bit naive.
