CWU CALLS FOR EMERGENCY SUMMIT TO SAVE ROYAL MAIL
https://www.cwu.org/news/cwu-calls-summ ... oyal-mail/
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) is calling for an emergency summit between the government, employers and union representatives to save Royal Mail as it stands “on the brink of collapse”.
The union – which represents Royal Mail’s workforce – has urgently called for formal talks between the union, company management and the government to identify a way forward for Royal Mail, and to rescue the company from serious crisis.
The news comes as BBC reporters warned of a “nightmare Christmas” for the company, with profound issues over the recruitment and retention of staff being reported across the country.
Commenting, CWU General Secretary Dave Ward said: “We are calling for a summit between stakeholders and the government to address the ticking timebomb that is Royal Mail.
“The BBC have shone a light on the harsh pressure postal workers are facing, and the price paid by consumers for the historic mismanagement of Royal Mail. “Royal Mail has been in structural decline for well over a decade, and the continuous failure to deliver quality of service is killing the brand, demoralising the workforce, and letting down the communities that postal workers are proud to serve.”
“At this stage, it doesn’t matter what delivery model is adopted: unless the company faces up to its self-inflicted recruitment and retention crisis, the company is on the brink of collapse. “For years, we have had select committees, promises of £500 million improvement plans, a broad array of agreements and threats to improve from Ofcom.
“Royal Mail is in serious need of a business vision that provides dignified work for employees and quality service for consumers and communities. The time for developing and implementing this vision is long overdue, and we must begin the work now.”

Re: CWU CALLS FOR EMERGENCY SUMMIT TO SAVE ROYAL MAIL
The CWU haven’t accepted that the problem with DM26 is two fold.
1. RM managers are implementing it understaffed and plan to cut more staff in the spring. RM are never going to fully staff it.
2. DM26 itself means a loss in 1 in 4 postie jobs. Those are union members that the union is helping RM to cut.
Instead of helping RM to ‘fix’ DM26, they should be calling for it to be scrapped.

The CWU are to blame. All they had to do was say no go but couldn't even do that.

You can't dispute the data and the data says it works. The CWU has nothing to dispute the data.

Hang on. A few weeks ago the dynamic duo were trying to tell us all that DM26 was working when everybody else said otherwise. Now suddenly it's all failing. Did somebody cancel the chocolate hobnobs

3. They are bringing it in on top of failed revisions, the PODS have been made up by a postie, which duties in the PODS are the one driver ones has been made up by the manager. Nobody has a clue yet which duty does which "thirds".
4. DM26 makes easy duties even easier, unachievable ones even more unachievable.
5. We've been told we won't do the heavy and large parcels but where are the staff and vans to deliver them? We don't believe it.
6. Half the staff is part-time and not many seem to want more hours.
At this point, considering RM don't seem to want to spend the money on proper revisions, I see the end game as one duty, one van, two frames and post delivered only three times a week, they'd need extra vans but that's a lot cheaper than employing people.

This is all coming off the back of the Labour Party conference. I would suggest the CWU must have secured a sympathetic ear in the Burnham cabinet to so rapidly change their tune.
The machine stops.

1 person, 1 duty, for example 900 houses total. 1st third (300) gets mail mon+thurs. 2nd third (300) gets mail Tues+Fri. 3rd third (300) gets mail Wed+Sat. Mon-Sat All Delivery Points get tracked 1C, Specials etc. Walking 40% of the time, Driving/e trike 60% of the time.

If they had RM could have well brought in ODM by Exec Action, as they've hardly hung about in introducing DM26 nationwide.tramssirhc wrote: ↑Today, 15:31The CWU are to blame. All they had to do was say no go but couldn't even do that.

Re: CWU CALLS FOR EMERGENCY SUMMIT TO SAVE ROYAL MAIL
This is bizarre to me as this is the first time in 4 years we actually have day off cover. Singletons have a fair workload.
For the 4 years previous to DM26 there was a 90%+ chance of coming in to double mail on your day off. These days your round is covered on your day off.
Obviously speaking from my own experience here.
