PLANS to change the use of the Royal Mail Delivery Office in Salisbury, from its current postal delivery operation to a self-storage facility, are among this week's planning applications.
The proposal would see the existing sorting office on Fisherton Street converted into lockable storage units, with the main building divided internally for customer storage and the smaller rear building turned into three separate storage units.
A total of 14 parking spaces would be provided across the site. The applicant argues the new use would generate significantly fewer vehicle movements than the current Royal Mail operation, reducing congestion, large vehicle traffic and on-street parking in the area.
The development would provide around 1,208 square metres of storage floorspace and is expected to support five full-time equivalent jobs.
