Residents in Leigh are being asked whether they have noticed improvements to their postal service following a trial aimed at tackling delivery issues.

David Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West and Leigh, visited a Royal Mail depot to meet representatives from the Communication Workers Union (CWU) Essex and discuss ongoing concerns.

The visit followed a meeting held last month about postal delays affecting parts of the constituency.

Mr Burton-Sampson said the pilot scheme introduced in the SS9 area appears to be delivering positive results, with fewer mail backlogs reported at the depot.

However, he acknowledged that problems remain in other areas, but was informed that, subject to approval, the scheme could be expanded to Shoebury, Rochford, Westcliff and Thorpe Bay.
