A LOCAL councillor says he will pursue ongoing Royal Mail delivery problems in Crossgates after some residents have even missed hospital appointments.
Cllr Darren Watt said residents were continuing to receive their mail "significantly late", which had resulted, in some cases, in delays in attending medical appointments and dealing with personal matters.
After the problem was brought up in July by MPs Melanie Ward and Richard Baker, they received a response from Royal Mail blaming a restructuring and changes to the way authorities send correspondance.
They said NHS, banks, and energy companies are more often choosing slower delivery options while letters are now being posted in bulk, but assured they "don't hold back mail if that means it would miss its target delivery date".
Mr Watt said: "It has been brought to my attention that Crossgates residents continue to receive their mail significantly late, resulting in missed hospital appointments and delays in addressing important personal matters.
"I will once again pursue this matter along with Melanie and Richard, and highlight the very real distress and inconvenience caused by Royal Mail's inability to deliver efficiently and effectively."
There have been issues with post delivery in the wider area since Christmas last year.
In January, Brian Menzie, from Lochgelly, spoke to The Times, explaining how he almost missed a potentially life-saving hospital scan at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
He didn't receive a medical letter, only learning about his scan after phoning his doctor's surgery to enquire.
At that point, Royal Mail apologised and said that they'd experienced some delays with their Christmas service.
